I was thinking of this as a framework for a 1000 point dwarf army (as I am just starting out)

Characters
Thane (65) 122
Shield with Rune of Stone (7), Hammer with 2 Runes of Speed and Master Rune of Swiftness (35), Ring with Rune of Warding (15)
Runesmith (70) 122
Shield (2), Ring with two runes of Spell Breaking (50)

Core
20 Dwarf Warriors (160) 205
Shields (20), Full Command (25)
20 Dwarf Warriors (160) 200
Great Weapons (40)
10 Thunderers (140) 140
11 Quarrellers (110) 121

Special
Dwarf Cannon (90) 90

1000

Any feedback, criticism, etc. would be great, as I'm planning on having a few practice games over the next couple of days with my most bitter foe, against whom battles are bloody affairs, usually on my side sadly....my brother.

I wish I had time for all the game systems I own, let alone want to own...

Hello,

Id suggest making the Thane a BSB, though at 1000p I only use a runesmith as my general with RoStone & shield for a 2+

I would try and make the blocks 25 man, both with GWs.

Im not a big fan of BS shooting, an organ gun is cheaper than those quarrelers, auto hit and if you need to reform you cant shoot.

Finally, if you can fit a grudge thrower with RoAccuracy, it can be devastating. Oh and the cannon really needs RoForging/flaming for the occasional Hellpit/Hydra.

Thanks a lot for the tips.
Well my main opponent will be HE, so I didnt think that flaming attacks would be too necessary.
And if I an Organ Gun tops Quarrellers, does it also top thunderers?
How about this for a revised list

Characters
Runesmith (70) 122
Shield (2), Ring with two runes of Spell Breaking (50)

Core
25 Dwarf Warriors (200) 345
Shields (20), Full Command (25), Great Weapons (100)
25 Dwarf Warriors (200) 345
Shields (20), Full Command (25), Great Weapons (100)
10 Thunderers (140) 140

Special
Bolt Thrower 45

997

I put in the Bolt Thrower because after the two big units of warriors I couldn't afford anything better, but I could always change the Thunderers for an organ gun, which would then give me 23 points for an engineer/runes on my bolt thrower

Hold on mate, your costing for the warriors is off. Great weapons should be 50p for 25 warriors not 100. Dont take both GWs and shields, especially at 1k.

Yes, an organ gun trumps quarellers and thunderers imo. If you roll a 6, dont reroll according to the maths. Think about it, 10 thunderers, 5 hits, 3s to wound, 3 wounds. Organ gun, roll a 4,6,8,10 youre already winning! Theres arguments both ways though.

If you swap the thunderers youll get an organ gun plus 20pts. Also youll save 100p from the GW mistake. You can now get a runed up cannon instead of the BT.

My list contains the same Runesmith, 25 GW warriors, 20 Hammerers, 1 cannon, 1 grudge and 1 organ gun.

If you lose the unit champs, you may get some much needed runes.

My regular opponent is also HE. Now I dont recommend fine tuning vs HE, going for balance will make you a better gamer. But still the organ gun can decimate his swordmasters (and any pesky eagles he may use), which apart from magic he'll rely on to win the game.

Oh damn...probably missed that because my mind is all over assignments at the moment. Thanks for that, I thought it was really pricey.

I'm probably not going to take those hammerers in a 1000 point game, because I'll be playing against mostly HE (i know its bad to specialize, but I'm not really, this is just a small army list to set targets to build and paint to play smaller games, and the only smaller games that I play regularly will be against HE) then the extra point of strength would go to waste (S5 GW are as good as S6 GW against T3, no?), and the extra WS will make little difference, as Swordmasters are WS6 and Lothern Seaguard (the other unit he tends to use) are WS4 like my warriors. I decided to put a rune of accuracy on my GT instead of the cannon, as well as put the engineer there, because I figured that would make this pretty deadly (apparently good at squishing units of Swordmasters). I also chose 2 BT instead of a cannon because S6 shots penetrating their ranks will generally get through 2 of them before they can take a save (and will be wounding on 2s each time), and they won't misfire (in a larger game I would take a cannon with rune of forging though). I can take away 3 dwarfs and put engineers on the BT so they hit on 3s...but I'm not sure, I'd rather keep my ranks and what not. Ok, so one more time with some of the changes you reckoned (thanks again for the help).

Its certainly looking like a stronger list. Its upto you now buddy. Experiment with shooters and types of artillery to suit your playstyle.

Your warriors have great stats, better than most others core. You should ask yourself, what do you have that can take out tough/large targets, massive 40-50+ man blocks (that will remove your steadfast and you risk getting flanked = dead dwarfs) and finally your magic defence. Get those right and your boys will have a much easier time.

I dont think you need the engineer on the GT. You have spare points for a RoStone on the Runesmith and/or GW. You could give rune of burning on one BT. Fiinally, the BTs will hit on 4s at long range with an engineer.

Good luck

You've got an Organ Gun. That means your on the right Dwarf track imo!

I'd say kill the bolt throwers, the engineer on the GT and a RoSpellbreaking and grab a 2nd GT with RoAccuracy and RoPenetrating. GT are that friggin awesome and even more so against Elves and their T3. Blast them to hell and let the warriors mop up what's left. I killed 18 of my buddies Blood Letters with 1 GT before he reached my lines, that's with 25mm bases and a 5+ ward save. OG is a solid call, especially if he brings a great eagle as that could ruin your day.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd
