So I have one more question about which army to play:

I want to play a defensive army...example, I take objectives and it takes a lot to get my troops off that spot...with some support from my other units.

Which is better:
Dark Eldar
Space Wolves

Of those two armies, SW probable lend themselves best to what you are trying to do. DE want to go first and attack so that they can start getting power from pain. SW can defend a little better because of long fangs and vehicles, but still lend themselves best to attacking IMHO

Space Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard, Chaos, Tau, Necrons, Germans (LW), Protectorate of Menoth

Thanks for the quick reply.

Is there any army better for what I am doing than Space Wolves?

Probably IG, which has a reputation of being a wall of armour.

But avoid stuff like Orks and Nids at all costs.

Don't know why I didn't think of this...but what about necrons...would they work for this play style?

Necrons as they are right now can work surprisingly well for this role because many of them will simply get right back up. Don't know what the will be like in the new codex.

The problem with Necron infantry is that they only have 24" of range with guns that aren't that scary. When you can take excellent defensive units like Long Fangs for Space Wolves or tanks for the Imperial Guard, Necrons really don't compare.

It's your choice though, and make sure you don't choose an army you don't actually like. Because then you'll be stuck with an army you may not like as much and may not enjoy playing with.

You can always adjust your play style a little over time. I'm sure all three of the armies we've mentioned will work, you might have to tweak off-mainstream lists a bit.

That wasn't very relevant, he was asking about which army is best for his style. We agreed neither Orks nor SM fit it.
