One really quick way of painting Necrons if you want them in silver metal colour is spraying them with Army Painters Mail armor spray, then washing them with Badab Black (If you want a particular coloured shine to them just use whichever wash paint in GWs range that you see fit what you have in mind :p )

Vallejo "Liquid Gold" line of products comes in Silver and White Gold. Both of which end up looking darn close to real metal IMO and are super simple to apply, go on VERY smooth and not particularly expensive.

If you're going for shiny shiny silver Krylon sells Chrome Silver and Chrome gold that'd be pretty snazzy for basecoating. Available at most DIYs, Walmarts, etc.
