Hi guys,

Some mates are starting up WHFB, one already has a Skaven army, the other is looking into WoC and TK, I think he's leaning to WoC though. The army I like the look of the most are O&G, purely on a style basis. I understand that they're regarded as a lower tier army than the two I'd be facing, so I'm a little concerned that they'll be completely uncompetitive? We'll be playing for fun, but there's obviously always a competitive element to the game, so I'd really prefer not to be blown away easily every game! I'm just a little concerned that this and the fact that both my friends are more experienced in WH could possibly mean a number of one-sided games?

With the above in mind, what should I do? Are there any builds I could try which could be relatively competitive vs. WoC and Skaven (and still fun and not cheesy, if that'd even be possible)? So, what's the best place to start, and what'd be the best models to pick up initially, a bunch of night gobbo's and throw in some blorcs? The current battalion's etc. don't seem great, so I may just try and pick some second hand stuff on ebay/market places. I've also just ordered myself the army book, so hopefully that'll arrive this week.

Any advice would be muchly appreciated guys!

Cheers!

Cool! I'm starting O&G too in a bit If you're up against Skaven and WoC like you said, you should have many strong troops IMO, since skaven are really weak and Chaos Warriors are strong as f&%! really. I'd recommend you have lots of normal Orks, Black Orks, Boar Riders etc. When you play against Skaven, here's a tip: Try to make them panic as fast as you can, and watch out for their warmachines as they can be pretty nasty. And if he's got big blocks of rats I recommend you get a Rock Lobba or two, as they can be very effective against the T3 Skaven units, which are pretty much all of them

Hope I helped.

Another Warboss joining the ranks of Orcs AND Goblins, eh? Very well. Against Warriors of Chaos you'll want Black Orcs while using Great Weapons. S7 first round of combat will make sure that you will crush his Armour Save even if they're wearing shields. And against Skave I would fight fire with fire - Rock Lobbas and lots of Boyz and/or gobbos. I also like using Savage Orc Big'uns against those rats, A3/S5 first round of combat will hurt - a lot, and will get rid of them.

Oh and don't worry, O'n'G got a pretty nice chance of winning vs Chaos and Skaven.

Thanks for the replies guys, well I managed to get myself started with a purchase of a bunch of stuff on ebay here:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220827648292&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

I've made a beginner's list real quick, first one I've done, so it'll be full of holes, I can name one right now - no magic items/talismans/weapons etc., I did it in a hurry earlier as I'm in work, but would appreciate some feedback on the units I've picked as I'll have alot to purchase to bulk out the army after the above ebay purchase!

Looks like you have a good variety of models, One big tip, full command can be very useful, I would highly suggest it.

Where are your big bosses and warbosses? You're also missing a BSB. If you're going for a mixed bag (both orc and goblin units), I'd suggest a black orc warboss (although he might put you over points on Lords) to help with animosity and maybe some regular bosses (goblin, orc, savage orc) to add some punch to your units. Especially the Savage and Black Orcs.

I started playing O'n'G last summer. They are such a fun army! Though I started out with more losses than wins, I now manage to pull in more wins. What I'm saying is don't be put off with early losses - identify the hole in your strategy and plug it!

If you can keep your head, while all about you are losing their's, then you have probably completely misunderstood the situation!
