Clearly the Black Templars are a prominent enough chapter to have their own codex. Considering they are a successor chapter they seem interesting. Who is their Chapter Master and really what is their role that they play in the 40k universe fluff wise?

Their Chapter Master is called the High Marshal, and is called Helbrecht.
Their role, I guess is probably as the chapter that still openly tries to expand the Imperium rather than try to defend it like the others. They embody Rogal Dorn's fierce loyalty and disdain for the Codex Astartes.
Their Crusades are often to purge an enemy that threatens the Imperium, and are largely symbolic. They are on a never ending Crusade, for them, the Great Crusade continues.
They despise Psykers of all kinds, allow none to serve in the Legion without going through rituals of penance, and the only allow psykers that are necessary for the function of their operations, namely Astropaths and Navigators.

Aww I see. So they are one of the few Marine Chapters that are still expanding the Imperium?

They're the crusading knights of 40K. They have no homeworld and no territory, just a never-ending crusade to take the fight to the enemy.

They're also hugely overstrength, compared to a strict Codex chapter. Most estimates put them between five and six thousand, but because they're constantly scattered across the Imperium, it's less important and almost impossible to prove.

They're complete zealots, even by the standards of the Imperium and the space marines. Fond of hand-to-hand fighting; their troops can swap their bolters for a bp/ccw combo. They don't have librarians, because of a deep-seated hate of psykers. They're also known for running toward the enemy after taking losses.

For the BTs, the Great Crusade hasn't ended. they are still searching for human worlds lost to humanity and will campaign in force to destroy the enemies of the Imperium.

As for their numbers, its unknown. each Crusade basically recruits its own members as needed.

Anything not human and Emperor worshipping...

They are on never ending crusade. have 6x the number of standard chapter, have bigger fleets, kick more ass than other chapters and they have cool color scheme

On a serious note - they being the never - ending crusades and their numbers are the only reason they are the unique army.

Before the Second Founding, Dorn was one of the Primarchs who opposed splitting the Legions. He took his opposition almost to the point of a second Imperial civil war with the Ultramarines and others who opposed it, but backed down to keep the Imperium from tearing itself apart.

Sigismund, the Emperor's Champion at the siege of the Imperial Palace, was named the first master of the newly-formed Black Templars. The Fist successor chapters were suspected of rebellion at the time, so as a show of his faith, he swore never to rest in his persecution of the Emperor's enemies.

The offshot is that the Black Templars fight any enemies they can find, wherever they find them, and the galaxy has no shortage there. Apostates, Chaos renegades, aliens, mutants, all of it. The chapter is constantly broken up into individual crusades, each one of them with a particular goal. Stop an ork WAAGH, break an invasion force, capture a stellar cluster, whatever. Once it's done, they'll be given some other campaign to pursue.

They are basically everywhere.

the BT codex shows the locations of their major crusades.


they have been everywhere from Armageddon to Cadia to the Daemocles gulf to the Galactic core.

I think they sent 20 members to the Daemocles gulf crusade. So they are basically everywhere. I wonder where I can find that map.

Also remember, they do ally with Grey Knights, or at least according to the current codex.

I wonder if that has changed since the fluff change about the general knowledge of the existence of the Grey Knights. Probably not, but are all crusading fleets aware of their existence?

There are always crusades going on and the only psyker marines that they will happily ally with is the GK, but also dont forget that there about 6k BT so think of how many crusades that can be. If you get the chancettolok at the inside page ofthe back cover of the codex you can see about the average size of a crusade, and see a few more of the crusades the BT are on. If i can find the map than ill post it.
