Well, I've been playing against the same list over and over- the Winterguard Death Star. For those who aren't familiar, that's Kovnik Joe, max Winterguard unit, 3 Rocketeers, Officer & Standard Bearer. It's a total nightmare, as it seems to be a Swiss army knife of pain. It can easily deal with any list I throw at it, including my all time favorite, listed below. Thus I turn to you, all mighty Dakkanauts. Please tell me what I need to do to my list to finally win a game.

Turns out to be "Scavengers of the Line" teir 1, which really helps my McThralls get in people's faces. The majority of the list is pretty straight forward- run up to things, debuff them, buff my unit, and break faces. During all this the arc nodes get into position for the Warcaster debuff/kill. Bloat thralls provide supporting fire, and the Necrosurgeon recycles McThralls or keeps Gaspy in good health. A fairly complicated plan, so that may be why it's not working. I've tried Bile Thralls before, but they just get blown off the table.

I'm a veteran of this game since Prime (Mk I) first dropped, and I just can't wrap my head around Mk. II. It's just gotten embarrasing how badly I get destroyed by this unit. Just so you know, the rest of the list keeps changing, but the Winterguard center always stays the same. Thanks for any input.

i would drop both bloat thralls and the necrotech for a min unit of bile thralls, which are still in the tier. i would play them mid table and carefully. you only need to get one in a good position for a purge and the WGDS will be neutered. this is coming from a Khador player who uses the WGDS on a regular basis. even if you dont get the purge off, the khador player will go at legth to destroy ALL of them early, which can open you up for other tricks.

I can't say anything better than that. I don't know how you have been playing against the deathstar but remember that breath of corruption is a POW 12 against everything in the AOE so if you can get them bunched up or run a mechanithrall into the middle and target it, you should be able to take out a few. Also try to get rid of the standard bearer ASAP as I bet it is the sprays that are killing your mechanithralls. That's what gives the unit that ability.

Ditto bile thralls. The Winter Guard death star, able to regularly hit Def15 with Pow10 sprays, is a pretty hard counter to most Cryxian infantry as it can routinely trump mech- and bane thrall swarms. I had a game against a Terminus list where my WGDS wiped out more than 40 mech thralls... in a 35 pt game.

But bile thralls with their auto-hitting pow 12 can scythe right through WG. The only problem is getting them there, which Deathjack and Excarnate can do fairly well.
