Well, now that I have completely assembled my 4 Battalion boxes worth of ogres, my Tyrant, Paymaster Brusier (BSB), and Araby Brusier, I am now starting to think on what direction I want to take the army so I can begin painting them.

The first thing for me, that came to mind, is that I want them to be a group of ogres that deal with the other races. I like the whole mercenary thing, especially for such a large race. Another thing that I am thinking of is their natural habitat is not from the mountains but instead either from the rolling hills at the base of the mountains or swamps/marshlands.

So for the hilly region, I am thinking the classic human flesh color that is tanned due to being in the sun constantly. The colors for equipment, I am unsure of. Brite reds and dirty browns instantly comes to mind off the top of my head. Instead of wood for most of the clubs, I could be doing stone.

For the marshland region, the normal human flesh color with a hint of green in the skin, almost like the front art cover of the current Ogre Kingdoms army book. The equipment color, natural colors of swamp beasts, dark browns and blacks. All of the clubs would be wooden in color.

For both types, rusted metal makes sense.

Working with these two ideas, could I get some suggestions for doing the skin, like the painting order. And if it matters, I have a flesh, greenskin, grey, and black primers. After that, a good suggestion on colors of pants and clothing of the ogres. Also, how to do the rusted look of metal, any suggestions would be great.

Once I decided, I will end up painting one over this weekend and post it here in this thread to get some feedback.

Thanks in advance!

Well whatever you do make sure it works with the new ogre kingdom models that are coming out.

As far as I am aware, the new Ogre Kingdoms models will not be much different. The gutplate and face is slightly different.

No help with tips and suggestions on either idea above?

I have just started to strip my ogres to repaint them, I went for the GW colours for the skin originally and it looked ok, but I am going to repaint them with a more human skin tone as I think they stand out a lot better.

Colour variance on the skin would look good, but I like to see and paint my own armies in a standard uniform, otherwise I think the army starts to look like a lot of abandoned ideas and themes that have just been smooshed together untidily.

Of course, there are thousands of better painters than be out there and if done right I’m sure it could look good.

Just my rambling opinion,

Jonas

The rust method in the army book works quite nicely. As does the blood!

I find that trying your ideas on actual models rather than paper works best. Try the methods from the army book for your marsh land guys and tweak as you go.

Good luck!

P.s need pics!

Need more 's in my life!
