The release date is Nov 20th and it appears to be a direct prequel to Ocarina of Time

I is intrigued. All the fanboyz who spend hours on end trying to piece together the Zelda timeline are going to be in their caves for weeks XD

I'm more excited for Darksiders 2... but I imagine this will be decent. Twilight Princess was pretty good; I suppose it will give me a good reason to power up my wii for once this year.

Wait, what?
A game where the main character (Link) is a grown dude is a direct prequal to a game where he starts as a small kid?!?

Well, about as direct as it's probably going to get

The quest lays the foundation for the events in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Only a few of the Legend of Zelda games have depicted the same 'Link'
It is implied in Twilight Princess that all the 'Links' come from a bloodline of heroes who rise to save Hyrule when it is in need. Most of the games have unspecified but apparently long periods of time between them (exceptions of course such as Majora's Mask which depicts the same Link from OoT).
This is a different Link and the story could take place centuries before OoT.
Figuring this crap gets even more complicated when you consider that OoT spawned a split time line and fans with too much time on their hands have to figure out which timeline various games belong in

Since when does continuity and logic play into JRPG story lines?
I'm psyched for this game, as I have been for every Zelda game that has come out since the mid-80s.

Supposedly Miyamoto and the design team maintain a master document that contains all information on the Hyrule timeline(s) and how each game fits in with relation to the others

@mega_bassist
your time line is off a little majora's mask goes directly before Wind waker due to the fact that wind waker is set in hyrule but flooded do to gannon destroys hyrule when link is away during the events of majora's mask.

The common belief is that Hyrule was flooded in Adult Links timeline when Ganon breaks out of the Dark Realm causing a cataclysm (Yeah Blizzard. Don't think I didn't notice!). Twilight Princess follows Young Links timeline and takes place after Majora's Mask where the sages imprisoned Ganondorf before his rise to power. EDIT: The chronological status of Ocarina of Time, Wind Waker (and sequels), Majora's Mask, and Twilight Princess are apparently confirmed word of god by Eiji Aonuma, the current head of the Zelda design team.
The timeline is note finitely known though. About the only games that everyone seems certain about is that Minish Cap is the first chronologically. Ocarino of time causes a timeline split. Wind Waker (and its sequels) is known to follow Adult Link's timeline, and Twilight Princess and Majora's Mask obviously follow Young Link's. I've seen the first two Zelda games appear on either side, and personally feel they follow Adult Links timeline taking place after Wind Waker and its sequels after the Hylians find a new homeland. The others get debated. Some people think Seasons/Ages take place before the OoT time split.

Fair enough. Though I thought Twilight Princess implied that they were all the same Link, reborn through the ages to fight Gannon, who was also Reborn through the ages.
Also, you know the LoZ game series is amazing, as it's the only game series that has barely changed since the beginning of Video Games and it's still one of the most anticipated releases.....

Indeed. Somehow, Zelda manages to maintain a number of concepts from the 1980's and 1990's without feeling stale (I actually like that there's no voice acting for dialogue XD). I can think of no other game that is like that. Zelda is the seminal event I think no dedicated gamer can reasonably ignore. Zelda is too culturally important (probably one of the five most important video game IP's in the mediums short history)

There really aren't many that are even in LoZ's league. Mario, Donkey Kong and Sonic the Hedgehog are the only ones I can think of that are really "icons" on the same level.

Idk about Sonic. Iconic sure, but he's kind of... a zombie... That Sega keeps dregging up...
I'd argue the most important game IP's are:
Legend of Zelda
Halo/Wolfeinstien/Doom (It's a joint award to the key FPS games)
Ultima
Grand Theft Auto
Age of Empires
That's my 2 cents anyway.
If we're just talking Iconic characters, Nintendo probably ends up sweeping the list for the most part with Link, Zelda, Ganon, Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong etc. I'd personally make room for Gordan Freeman, Solid Snake, and maybe Master Chief (probably not Master Chief).

I'd say Age of Empires and Grand Theft Auto are rather negligible compared to a lot of other game IPs out there.
Anyway, I love Zelda, and cannot wait for this game.

Meh...took them long enough. I bought a Wii for Twilight Princess and discovered it wasn't much different than the version on the gamecube. Now five years later they decide to bring out another one, just as the Wii is on life support. My Game Informer even said "Taking The Wii For One Final Spin." That sounds absurd to me. The series didn't even really take the Wii for a spin in the first place. They used it as life support for the gamecube and to help sell the new system. How much you want to bet the Wii U will have a High Def version of Skyward Sword as well?
Honestly a follow up to Twilight Princess probably three years ago would have been nice. It would have made the Wii a much more worthwhile purchase. As it is, I am glad I sold mine 4 years ago.

Go out and pick up a game called Lost in Shadow. Trust me, its a fething great game. One of those that in a decade will be on those "Most under rated games of all times" lists. The didnt really push the game during launch, and no one has ever heard of it, but I gave it a try and I just couldnt put it down.
