One thing that i thought would be pretty fun to discuss here is the necron rumors. While searching around today for the newest rumors, i stumbled on a LOT of threads about necrons. You are probably thinking: "SO? i do that every day too".
But did you notice how Antsy everyone is about the codex update? It seems like even the moderators here at Dakka are "Semi-raging" whenever someone starts a "Necron updates" in the news area thats a bit farfetched, or makes it look like they have actual info when there really isnt any.
Do you think the Necrons release is the most anticipated codex? i have seen some "Whoop whoop" over other codexes, but Necrons have people SCREAMING at the top of their lungs at GW to release them.

Codex Necrons is an anticipated codex, but the most anticipated ever? No.
Dark Eldar, for example, was more anticipated than the Necrons, Imo.

Was it? i never saw so much as i have with Necrons. i knoew people "WANTED" DE, but were the screaming as loudly for them as they are with necrons right now? i mean, even the mods here are just NUTS if someone posts something about necron rumors and REALLY doesnt have REAL info.
Idk, just my opinion that Necrons are much more "WANTED" than DE were.
EDIT: My opionion is based on what i see here in the forums. sorry, wanted to clarify that.

I doubt it. The player base for Dark Eldar was so tiny at that point that it was basically surviving on fresh interest for an unknown quantity. Necrons still have a good player base. Tau are likely more wanted though. They were/are popular.

Not a fan of the poll.
Necrons are not the most anticipated Codex of ALL TIME. Dark Eldar hold that. Hell, the entire DE line was redesigned. At least we know that Necrons will be keeping their Warriors intact. Dark Eldar waited 17 years.
I would like GW to 'take their time' not because Necrons are unanticipated but because I don't want another half-assed rushed Crud-Dance that was the Tyranid Codex.
As for the third option, I do play Necrons.

Not a fan of your post. you are trolling.
This poll and Post is a big question. i am not STATING that necrons are the most anticipated. i am asking people for their opionion about this as well. Stating that from what i have seen for necrons, they LOOK like they are.
Now, about DE, the sad thing is, you waited 17 years, but could still have SOME sort of competetion with these Meq armies. you still had a farily decent codex (DECENT) dont troll me for that. in either direction, it was still much better than necrons currently.
yes, i do agree, if they take their time, hopefully we dont get another half-assed tyrinid codex.

Necrons have been my main army since I started playing 40k, and I am really excited about the new dex. But what I am not excited about is all the people that are going to jump on the "Oh its new and awesome" bandwagon. At my LGS I am the only Necron player, after the new Dex comes out, watch half the shop will be playing crons. Its like DE, 1/2 of the shop plays DE now.

I would say one of the least, actually. The players are neither numerous nor particularly vocal. I've seen a lot more chatter about... just about every other upcoming codex.

There is always the new codex jump from players. It's what helps to keep GW in business. That being said I am looking forward to the new Necron codex. I am hoping to see more interesting units and certainly more fluff. When I first started I wanted to go with Necrons but units and lack of fluff killed it for me. I will always be a big fan of the Warrior models though...that's what really drew me in. Regardless of how great the book is I will not be starting any new armies anytime soon.

I'm pretty sure the tau rewrite has been more anticipated since 5E came out. No one really cared about dark eldar before their book, they were a joke and no one played them. People have mentioned new tau books in every thread they could for years. The legions codex fans drowned out the Dark Eldar fans too. They still do.
The tyranid codex wasn't really rushed. It was just badly written.

I couldn't care less about necrons...now if they get some cool models I might pick some up, but I've always hated how necrons interjected themselves into everyone's fluff and their stupid rules and theme.
I think people might be getting kinda antsy because the track record for the last few MEQ lists has been over powered.

Orks and dark eldar consistently place in the same tiers or above Blood Angels and Space Wolves in major tourneys. Guard were better then both until DE altered the Meta as well. They still are, really.

Most anticipated? Hard to say. I want it to come out pretty badly myself, but as it's Ward Written i'm precringing
GW has already taken their time. A decade+ between updates is more than taking time, it's taking the mick..
I play Crons, and have done for a very long time. I'm not looking forward to Necrons being 'Flavour of the Month' with everyone and their poodle playing them, but rest assured that when the next skittle... um i mean Marine colour codex drops they'll all sell out and move on
In the mean time you will be able to tell us old guard Cron players by our dinky little tomb spyders
I rather like the situation now, where i'm playing the underdog codex that everyone thinks i a joke, and handing them (and their shiny new codex (whatevermarine) armies) their butts. It's not due to codex power (it helps ) but to the fact that they only play for about 6 months before changing codexes (and never paint the models as a result) and i've been playing Necrons since forever.
Really KNOWING the ins and outs of your list (and sometimes i am vague on a few points as my memory is getting dodgy in my old age) can give you an edge over a player with a new, OP codex, but no idea how to use it effectively.

if I could like this, I would. I still play necrons and tau to this day. A lot of the current necron rules are so outdated that most people are unfamiliar with how crons operate. Yeah, the whole thing about mattward.....ugh. I just hope wreaths get a deserving remake.
anyhow, it seems from the poll that a LOT of people don't care cuz they don't play. The tau player above atleast stated that he didn't play, but still looked forward to it.

Have people really forgotten about the years of wishing for, talking about, joking about, whining about, etc, Dark Eldar that has been happening on the internet up until the point certain pictures of certain greens were even outlawed on Dakka. Dark Eldar have been on their own level of being anticipated for so long that some people still didn't believe it until they saw the actual boxes in the stores.
Based on what I have observed on this forum and other internet forums there is not a single other release that has even come close to the way Dark Eldar were anticipated. Imo this is not even debatable, but I also don't give a rat's arse if people want to do it anyway

Genuine anticipation and memes aren't the same thing. People mention squats daily, it doesn't mean people actually care.

There is no conclusive way to find out what and how much is genuine anticipation and what is not, so all we can do is look at the attention something is given. Darl Eldar got >>>>> more attention than anything else.

Over time. I heard more rants about wanting a new chaos codex daily then I did DE. It's death was relatively accepted and there was a large contingent of dissatisfied chaos players (as there still is). I hear the same with the Tau now, itself eclipsing the actual ferocity of DE desires.
That's my personal experience though.

Nope. Dark Eldar hold this distinction.. De have been waiting since around 2006 when "substantial"rumors starting hitting the net.
Let's push back this Necron release, oh I don't know, until 2016, which is longer than the 2006-2010 DE players waited, and then necrons will take that prize.
2016.

My first 40K army was necrons, the only reason i strayed from them was the lack of customisation you got from them, hopefully the new dex will sort that out and make them less predictable than they were. I love playing 'crons but all the lists seemed about the same, especially at lower point battles.

I'd say Necrons are more anticipated, certainly more than DE.
They actually get attention in the games and the books compared to DE, and they at least haven't dealt with 10+ years of a gakky, unoptimized book that relied on 1 or 2 builds to win.
