Same as posted using my friend's account:

Hey all! I've had my Chaos Space Marines for a while but sadly they are still charcoal black all around, not much happening around there. I want to paint them as a legion, but I'm having a tough time choosing between a few. This is mostly for the fluff of my army. Maybe some of you guys want to be nice and help me out.

Emperor's Children
+Fan of Slaanesh and the Legion
+Concept of Extremes is nice
-Pink
-Not a fan of art and painting
-No other Cult Troops (1k Sons and Plague Marines)

Night Lords
+Love the Blue paint scheme
+Concept of Striking the Weak Links
+Looks Horrifying
+Lore with crucifixion and brutal torture bedazzles me
-Doesn't Worship Chaos
-Dead Primarch
-"Emo"

Death Guard
+Very Cool Concept
+Models look bad donkey (Helmets!)
+Mortarion has neat fluff
-Like the Legion, not Nurgle
-Ugly, ugly colors
-Can't Include other Cult Troops (Thousand Sons)

Thousand Sons
+Tzeentch is my bro
+Love blue!
+Magic
-Can't Include other Cult Troops (Plague Marines)

Word Bearers
+Fanatical Devotion to Chaos
+Zeal appeals to me
+Began the Whole Horus Heresy
-Lorgar seems whiny to me
-RED, I hate warm colors!

So I love cool spectrum colors and atleast some kind of worship to Chaos. In fact, that's the only bad thing about NL. I'm looking to scratch them off of the list one by one. I get very into the fluff of each Legion and want to pick the right one. I don't want to be wasting time painting or anything like that. Any C/C or advice would be great!

Well I'd suggest not playing an army you don't like the background of, but that's just because I'm really into fluff. So if you follow that advice you'd strike the Night Lords off.

It also seems like you don't like how the Death Guard looks, and I wouldn't like to spend forever modelling an army whose appearance I dislike, so I'd strike that off too. Of course you said your mostly into the fluff and not into painting so this might not matter.

So that leaves you with the Word Bearers, Emperor's Children and Thousand Son for you to choose form. Hope this helps.

Why no world eaters, khorne's my fav chaos god plus zerkers are bad a**, but after readin fulgrim got new respect for emperor's children, and i love the night lords fluff, but it seems like you hav the least amount of cons for the thousand suns, and thats just fieldin guys that you already think look ugly, so i'd say go with thousand suns, besides who doesn't like magic(other than khorne) and AP3 bolters

Go with a nonspecial troops army like alpha legion or something that doesnt limit you to what you can have.

Let me just put on my Word Bearer paraphernalia.

Yeah, so you should pick Word Bearers. Darken down the red a lot with Dabab black, or just plaster them in bronze and grey trimmings and long scrolls of parchment like me. Lorgar has found is strength as of Aurelian, the novella, or so it seems from the tiny extract in Hammer and Bolter 10.

Since you aren't limited by the rules, unlike the last codex, why not include other cult troops? I'm sure you can come up with convincing enough reasons if anybody asks. I know for me that FW Death Guard conversion kit is next and I don't even play Death Guard

I think my biggest worry is that when 6th comes out and the supposed Chaos Legions book comes out, I already want to have a legion rather than get one started or repaint renegade models. I guess I can have a Legion base, no matter what it is, and just throw in Cult Troops with the shoulder pad thing to make it good for this edition and next.

The bonus of this as well would be that he is nearly finished painting them, a bit of gold and boltgun and voila, finished Black Legion

I vote for a non-cult legion, simply because your not tied to one kind, an with the right working of fluff, you can rope any of them in.

My vote is the nightlords, since they look amazing and the fluff is pretty awesome. And if you feel more attached to the legion, you will have a greater time staying focused on painting them amazingly.

If you look at others, you could also look at the Alpha legion, some kind of thing with more cloak/dagger and less brutal torture. From a cool modelling perspective of the two, I know I saw a couple CSM armies where they used nightlords and had some fantasy vampire critters and dragon as summoned lesser/greater daemon which looked terrifying and very different from the norm. Also the Alpha legion with lizard men and a hydra.

Sarge: Quick, Kill them!
Grunt: Wait, but those are ladies, we cant hurt ladies.
Sarge: Those arent ladies, they're Deamonettes. They will tear you limb from limb and eat your soul.
Grunt: But sir... that's what ladies do....
