After the Imperial Fists, Salamanders are my favorite chapter. I fell in love with them the moment I read about them. Also, their favorite weapons are Flamers and Meltas, same as the Sisters! Well, they use a lot of Thunder Hammers too, but those are awesome too!

Unfortunately, only one assault terminator can take a Land Raider as a Dedicated Transport. The other have to purchase them from the heavy slots.

Also, I'd HIGHLY recommend getting rides for your tacticals, especially if you're playing at 3000pts.

Devs with Multi-meltas will have a hard time getting to the enemy without a ride, coupled with their short range. Missiles are better, but fluff-wise, stick with the meltas. I guess you could use them as an area denial squad.

Hm... I can't believe I didn't see that before. That sucks, I didn't want to take out the Devs. I'll see what I can do, but later.

Also, check out my IG list.

3000 points is pretty high. Ard Boyz in 2500 and thats the highest point event each year.
Try tuning your list to 1500-2000 points...those are standard play levels.

Life isn't fair. But wouldn't it be worse if Life were fair, and all of the really terrible things that happen to us were because we deserved them?

Yeah, for the vulcan (and the fist list) I highly recommend toning them down to 1500 or so points (a great place to start, test the strategies, and learn what you like/don't like).

So let's see what we can use of this list for 1500 points.

First off, I don't really like MotF and the servitors. Especially since you can't take that many termies, he really isn't needed to grab that dread.
Sadly, you only run Devs in nilla marines with MLs (maybe 3ML/1LC). Drop the Multi-meltas.
The Ironclad is fine w/melta and flamer. It will need a drop pod if it's going to do any damage, though (way too short a range to walk).

Here's a pretty typical list for you to try out at 1500 (it's also easily modified to work for you fist list).

HQ:
Vulkan: 190

Elites:
5xTH/SS termies in LRR w/MM: 450
1x dread w/HF/MM w/drop pod: 150

Troops:
2x10 tac w/flamer/MM(maybe one an ML), rhino: 410

Fast Attack:
3 x 1 w/HF/MM: 210

HS:
Predator w/HB sponsoons: 85

Total: 1495

Okay, it's not the greatest vulcan list. But it's not terrible, and at 1500, there's room to move up (and room to adjust based on what you have). There are 6 flamers (4 HF), 6 meltas, and 5 TH. Your meltas should hopefully be enough to take out armor, and the predator is some extra damage. Personally, I prefer vulkan lists starting at 2000 points (just because vulkan costs 12.667% of your maximum army, and I find it hard to work in enough MM/flamers at 1500 to make it that viable). Anyway, that list should be pretty competitive and really let you explore vulkan.

If you want an idea for a salamanders army, one of the best players at my local gaming scene runs with a list similar to this:

Vulkan

Space marine librarian with avenger and null zone ( rerolling successful invuls is SO EVIL.)

5x tactical squads with melta gun and multi melta, all in drop pods.

5 assault termies with TH/SS in a land raider

2 vindicators

It's nasty nasty nasty effective.

To be fair he's also a master tactician in 40k, but that is a really strong, hard to beat list.

The thing is Salamnanders dont' use Fast Attack because of the increased gravity of their homeworld. They barely have some Scout Bikers and nothing more. I'll edit my list later.

Ah, well if you're going fluff, then lose the Fast Attack.
If you're going crazy combo (they're really good with vulcan) then take them.

Before anyone says anything, let me tell you I know what's wrong here: The Ironclad Assault Launcher and the Melta Bombs. I know those are an awful way to spend those points, but I really didn't know what do do with them and I like round numbers; so if you really don't like them, ignore them and tell me what to do with my spare points. Also, if I do want to go 3000, I guess it wouldn't kill me to add a few Land Speeders.

Mk. You have 500 points left. If you're going for competitive, take 210 of those points and grab 3 speeders, MM/HF.
That leaves 290 points. Some of that has to go to more transports for your tac squads.
But maybe the thing to do is lose a couple tac squads. Maybe grab a dreadnought, MM/HF and throw him in a pod?
Or you could grab sternguard, instead, and give them combi-meltas or flamers.

I guess the issue with this current list is that you have 6 tac squads and only 3 transports for them.

Rewrote it. Everything has transports. No Drop Pods. The infantry I know it's expensive, but I didn't want to leave those points I spent on the Bombs and Fists just hanigng there. What do I do with them?

If you lose the powerfist, dozerblades, and meltabombs you would have room for a terminator librarian.

Hm... I hadn't thought of that... I've never realy thought on Librarians for any of my lists, now that I think of it. I've heard some good stuff about rerolling invulnerable saves, though, so I might do that. I?ll cut some corners and see what I can do.

Edited! Vulkan and Librarian go with Termies in a Land Raider each. Tacticals go in Rhinos. Speeders are in too, they are heavy-hunters with a Flamer in case they need to take down some infantry. Dready drops with his Drop Pod and starts killing everything at reach. How's that?
