Am I the only one that prefers the old codex to the new one? I liked the old one because there were alot more options, army specilty options to individual unit options. Made it so no two armies were ever close to the same... seem so cookie cutter to me now. That and they removed the Last Chancers, the only way to get individual snipers......

I preferred the old one as well... but GW likes to force these things on us, so I had to scrap my drop troop heavy infantry army in favour of... yup... tanks tanks tanks! >_> got 5 vehicles, and that's seemingly still not considered much for a guard army as I only field up to 3. And yet it's far more than I ever would have taken if they didn't nerf my ability to get a 4+ save.

Oh how I hated that codex release for doing that to me.

Edit: but shouldn't this be in a more relevant forum section?

The new one does seem a bit cookie cutter, its always veterans this... vendettas that...

37,500 pts Daemon Army of the Gods

35,000 pts - X - Iron Tenth

15,000pts - Firehawks

I think the thing that really get me upset is the scrapping or re-working of some models. One of my favorites was a vet that had the medel that made him equal to a heroic sr officer (can't remember the name off hand right now), bolter and force sword. Thanks to his bionics, he would often survive when his unit would get taken out, live and keep on fighting. He once single handedly took down 5 ork nobs, finished them off, moved on to the reminates of a unit of ork boys that fled from a laser barrage. Finally the ork boss himself stepped up and barely was able to take him down. I miss him. Also the scrapping for my project of making several units of rough riders. I hate the fact that I have to have a hunting lance (which I hate, it's a one shot weapon) and either a las pistol or a CCW... seriously? Why did you take away the option to ditch the lance, or have a lasgun, or a shotgun along with the CCW?

In general I like the new book. They didn't make the old choices worse, they just introduced new, arguably better stuff. My main beef follows that voiced by tilarium. They changed the small options, which is by and large stuff that doesn't matter one bit in a game, but it was what my models were armed with. For me, it was the inability to give Sergeants lasguns. I had a variety of guys with lasguns modeled to be giving orders with rank markings on their armor. Now they're corporals or something... I don't see how little stuff like this would make guard squads broken, it's just frustrating that we're sometimes forced to take useless "upgrades".

Yeah, I like a lot of the new stuff that got added, most of the new stuff. But removing all of the little options, it takes away all the uniqueness of the armies. I forgot about my lasgun armed sergeants. Yesterday when I was making some new lists for next week I realized that I had to give the entire command squad, including the advisors carapace armor instead of just the officer.

Personally I see more variety now, bofore all I saw were drop troop suicide squads. It was boring to play against

I built my army on the old list with poor understanding of the mechanics as it was. Now have no Autocannons - and the one FW model they didn't add to the new codex was my converted salamander!

I agree about the sarge's. It made sense to have all las-guns in my park and shoot army. Heck all those little changes mean I've had to hack and slice and green stuff my way through older models just to make a legal HQ and 2 troop choices. (All LR army? good idea self, good idea.)

I find with this codex it definitely lives up to more of the fluff of the IG, however, I do agree with the cookie cutter Guard list. I look at all the tourney lists and I look at my list, if I ever went to a tourney people would laugh at my list, because it doesn't have the "bare essentials" of a tourney guard list. Then again that is for most codex's now adays.

I miss the little customization options, like wargear and doctrines, that have largely been streamlined. I miss veterans being 0-1 Elites. But most of all, I also miss the rule that said the Chimera's 6 fire points were lasguns. That being said, the new codex brings a lot of new options to the table that I'd be loathe to pass up on, such as Valkyries, variant Leman Russes, etc.

Im pretty new to IG but I dont miss the old codex one bit. Ive always loved the armored aspect of IG and now I can field almost all tanks in a 1750 Battle no problem. I just love being able to deploy 3 chimeras and 9 tanks.
I love being able to deploy faster than a GK player.

I've been building my IG army since 2nd ed.

I'm glad to have Griffin mortars back.

Never played with the 3rd ed one.

Get with the times, keep up or be swept aside by the daisycutter.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
