I've been wanting to play Daemons for about 2 years now, but have always gone to something else LIIIKE Eldar, Sisters of Battle, Space Marines, Blood Angels...I haven't played a game of
40k in about 4 or 5 months, so I'm picking it back up with what I originally wanted to play, but never did.
One of the reasons I never actually started playing Daemons was difficulty in picking a theme. Unlike most of the other armies where things aesthetically look like they should go together, that's not the case for Daemons. And that's the point, I suppose, four completely unique gods with their own specific look and feel. That's great to a degree, but I didn't want a mish-mash of units from everywhere on the board (though I do want to use their rules). So, I needed to think of a theme that stretched further than just playing the army.
Looking at the units I'm most interested in and knew I would field the most, Bloodcrushers and Bloodthirter, I thought to make "Mechanized Daemons", or at least heavily influenced by mech. After seeing the Khorne Dreadknight Daemon Prince I knew the scheme should work. I'm not terribly worried about the fluff being canan or anything. I'm shooting for a pretty good "Counts As" army that someone can see on the board and not need a three page paper resighted to them explaining which unit is which and why.
I decided to start this blog because I always buy, assemble, and play an army, but never full paint it. I have 2000 points of 4 other armies with about 500 points painted of each. I really want to finish painting a complete 2000 point list. To do that, I'm taking my Daemons slow. Buying 1 unit at a time, painting that unit, then buying another, until I have my full 2000 points.
The List...
Bloodthirster
Fateweaver (Unholy Might, BotBG)
2x4 Bloodcrushers (Full Command)
2x5 Plaguebearers
1x5 Pink Horrors (Bolt)
1x5 Pink Horrors (Bolt, Changeling)
3x5 Daemon Princes (Wing, Iron Hide,
MoN, CoF, NT)
Seems like a decent enough list, but I don't particularly like many of the models in the list. To remedy this, I've been looking into other companies' model ranges to search out replacements.
Model Thoughts
Bloodthirster
-I went the route of GamesDay and converted a Dreadknight and a Daemon Prince to make my Counts As Bloodthirster. Pics below.
Fateweaver
-I'm thinking of using Vrok from Ultraforge, even though he's not mechanized at all. I can't really think of any alternatives that are within my price range that can pass for Fateweaver that look as cool, and/or are more mechanized than Vrok.
Bloodcrushers
-Already being mechanized and plastic to boot, these are probably the only 100%
GW models I will use in the whole army. Quite happy with these guys. Pics below
Plaguebearers
-I've decided to use Bane Thralls from the Cryx army from Warmachine. I was originally planning to use Warriors of Chaos, but the Bane Thralls are such nice minis and I see them as necrotic knights. To me that's what
PB's are. I don't see the need for them to be literal blobs of decay mess. So, overall I'm pretty happy with this decision.
Pink Horrors
-These guys are still up for debate. Before settling on the mech theme, I was planning to use Wood Elves Dryads instead of the official Horrors models. But now since I have plans to use Cryx models I'm considering using The Withershadow Combine and Skarlock minis from Cryx. I don't want to overuse Cryx models, but I'm trying to keep the aesthetics going, and I'm thinking the 2 squads of Bane Thralls will stand out being the only Cryx models. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to consider. But right now, the Withershadow Combine and Skarlock are my current best option.
Daemon Princes
-Sticking with Cryx models, I'm thinking Lich Lord Terminus will be great. I'm still thinking about the other 2. I want all 3 to be different, so I am also considering Lord Exhumator Scarverous and possibly one of the Death Jacks. Those 2 I'm still working on because of size issues (I want them to be sized appropriate for a
DP) and I don't want so much Cryx that people think I'm playing Warmachine.
With that out of the way I'd like to use the rest of the
OP and thread to show some
WiP photos as I complete each unit until the army is fully finished. Please comment on anything and everything. I'm not the best painter in the world, but I'm generally pretty content with what I can do. If you have any suggestions for conversions or Count As models please help me out.

First up is my version of the Dreadknight Daemon Prince. This is my first conversion and first time using Green Stuff. It's pretty close to what I wanted. I think the sword needs a bit more work or redoing, but pretty happy with the rest.
Bloodcrushers. Only 3 for now. More to come eventually. Showing off my Full Command units.
Up in the next couple days I'm hoping to have my 10 Plaguebearers (Bane Thralls) painted and based.
Everything in the army is going to be on Micro Art Studio "Temple" bases. Waiting for the rest in the mail...
