Hey,

So, would it be legal to field an all scout marine force? I dont have a copy of the codex to refer to.

Cheers,

Yes technically it is, excluding the HQ. Competitiveness is another story. You can probably get it up to near 2000 points. So yes, if you include 1HQ you can do an all scout only scout list (including lss and scout bikes).

You would need to take an HQ, other then that, perfectly legal although I can't see winning a lot of games with it.

Scout units are in the troops and fast attack sections.

Your HQ would have to be power-armored. But you could use this model for a captain and still be super-fluffy. He's the master of the recruits and leader of the 10th company (which is all scouts).

Awesome, I was thinking of converting Telion to be a counts as Scout Captain, I'm seeing lots of sniper rifles, missile launchers, lss etc.

A mega fast moving force.

You will probably come to realise that I'm more in to the tales behind a force than winning with them. Then again, I have to play a game so that could change!

Well if you're just do fluffy, here's a quick little Scout force.
This is scout force Hydra, a section of the ultramarines 10th company sent to hazardous areas to perform specialized missions against the enemy

HQ:
Captain (artificer): 100

Troops:

2x5 sniper scouts, camo-cloaks, MLs: 200
1x6Sniper scouts, camo-cloaks, MLs, Telion: 150
2x10 scouts w/shotguns, combi-flamer, drop pod, deathwind: 400
1x5 scouts, ccw, combi-melta, pf: 110

Fast Attack:
1LSS (AC): 85
2x8 Scout bikers, GL, pf, beacon: 460d

Total: 1495

So pretty simple strategy and fluff. The snipers pick off high value targets/use the MLs, while the bikers find locations to bring in a drop pod. The LSS carries the other squad.

It's not competitive in any real sense, and it has virtually no Anti-tank, but I think a real scout force could easily look something like this.

You could have the captain 'count as' Kor'srro Khan so that he can outflank justlike other scouts.

Space Marines, Orks, Imperial Guard, Chaos, Tau, Necrons, Germans (LW), Protectorate of Menoth

That's cool, thanks Hashbeth, that looks great. Wdyt to me adding in some MM attack bikes with scouts in place of marines for a spot of tank bashing??

TechMarine1 - where can I find some info on Kor'srro Khan? Is it in the standard marine codex?

Feindus - that's cool, I'll probably expand into that at some point, though initially I'm looking at doing a nothing but scouts force. I'm 50/50 on including drop pods too, just as I dont really see scouts using them to deploy in to the middle of a battle, as the scouts would already be planet side and launching the strikes.

A very fluff heavy force, maybe not that good at winning gamesbut designed at being very fun, very different and a great story teller!

2 further questions, can Tellion lead a force / take a HQ foc section or Kor'srro Khan? And what's the transport capacity of a LSS?

Cheers all!

Hmmmm, it would seem that I need to pick a chapter so that I can choose the characters to lead them with...

Does anyone know of a chapter other than the Ultramarines that has a Scout character? I'll be starting with the 10th company and building just a scout force, nothing else, so will need a suitable character to lead them. Would likely expand up the line as time goes on though

All hail counts as, build your own model, with an awsomebolter convertion, make up your own fluff and say counts as Telion. Or the codex
specifically say that other chapters borrow him from time to time to train their scouts in the fluff, so paint him up ultramarines and then do what you want with the rest of the army.

Is that legal though? I like the idea of doing a White Scars / Raven spin off, but using Telion and his special rules. Can you pick and choose characters from different chapters or is that 'illegal'?

To add some firepower, if you are a ba player you could add a baal predator, a scouting tank which can move 18 inches with its scout move, then move 12 inches next turn and burn everything to dust!

Blood angels are so awesome they make me cry!

You're free to do as you please. I think the codex says something like 'to represent the frequent occurance of SM chapters fighting together". It's all in one book so run with it

EDIT: I don't think you can add in marines that have their own dex though, so no mephiston in a vanilla list. I may be wrong though - it just occured to me

Wicked & bad, cheers Davy.

I'm seeing a scout army all with outflank here... I like x-P

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Samual - that sounds cool as feth! I think I'm going with a vanilla list though so won't be able to use the Baal...

Still, I'm trying to get my fiance to take this army on as one of her own so you never know, she may want BA's...

Here's a 1000 point list I'm considering running with. Haven't bought any of the models yet so please feel free to critique, though bare in mind that I'm trying to avoid power armour and tanks all together! Characters are counts as, the Khan will be an interesting / challenging conversion I think...

HQ:

Kor'Sarro Khan with Moondrakken

Troops:

4 Scouts with sniper rifles, 1 scout with missile launcher
4 scouts with sniper rifles, 1 with missile launcher

2x Razorbacks upgraded to lascannon & TL plasma gun with HKM

5x scout bikes with power weapon, melta bombs, 3 grenade launchers & cluster bombs
5x scout bikes with power weapon, melta bombs, 3 grenade launchers & cluster bombs

Fast attack:

2x Land speeder with MM

Total points 1005

Now, I appreciate that I'll have my work cut out for me with this list, what I'm trying to guage is the fun:fail factor. I'm seeing a completely different force to what's considered the norm, all of which can outflank, the bikes now fill in as troops and have speed to hold on to objectives. The cluster bombs would be handy for booby trapping objectives at the start of the game. I'm not 100% on the razorbacks if I'm honest, do you think I'd do better to put in another couple of MM land speeders, or a LSS with 5 shotgun wielding scouts?

Tanks would be a problem for this force, but how much big armour am I likely to face in a 1000 point list?

Cheers as ever!

My question involves the razorbacks. Why do you have them? Are they with the snipers? They shouldn't need backs. If you want them, maybe grab some ccw scouts or something, instead, to use them.

Those bikers are too expensive, me thinks. The clusters, meltabombs and power weapons I'd turn into a pf (though they still aren't too effective, nonetheless).

I wish you could have some long range support, and the razors can help with that. But they aren't enough, nor are they strong enough. You need preds for that.

If you go against IG, you'll see a lot of tanks. And of coure there will be transports. Lots of transports. And you only have...6 weapons to deal with them (keeping the razors in the back. If you do, you'd be better off with TLLC, anyway).

I mean, that's the issue. Any mech in your in trouble, or any major cc. Scouts are just so flimsy that way...
Idk. It's really up to you.

Hm, I see your frustration at my project! Lol, maybe I'll end up doing a Scouts force that counts as normal marines, just with a lower armour save, at least that way I can chuck in some sternguard / devastators for AT duties.

The razorbacks were put in to transport the scouts and add some lascannon rounds to the fray. I was edging towards the PF, but decided to go for the power weapon to avoid instances of being last to strike.

My ultimate goal is just to have something different. I don't want to have "just another marine force" or something like that you know? I get frustrated when I hear of folks just going along with a winning force all the time. I understand the desire to win, I just dont want to be another of the same.

Time to sleep on it...! Cheers Hash

And either way, Best of Luck. I like the scout idea, just don't know how to implement it myself, lol. Hence the headscratching on my part ^ ^

WHYWON'TMYSPACEBARWORK!!!!????!!!!!

Lol, ok, we're good again. Thanks for the luck, reckon I'll head on down to my flgs and run it by some of the guys there too, see if I can get a couple of test games in.

Note - aside from counts as, its not possible to get more than 1 HW in a scout squad is there? And even then, it's ML's or HB's, right?
