This is my first time making a metal mini with assembly required (in this case, Commander Dante of the Blood Angels) and I can't figure out how to get the bits to connect. Super glue doesn't work. The epoxy paste I use to fill in cracks doesn't work. How the hell do I get this thing to work?

My P&M blog - in which I chronicle the transformation of a battered windfall of models into an awesome addition to my Blood Angels force (hopefully) - can be found here: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/431820.page.

Have you tired pinning the mini? This is recommended for most metal models, to strengthen the connection.

Why precisely does the super glue "not work"? Adding more glue on top of whatever you've put there before in an attempt to stick it will only make things worse. Wait for it to dry and scrape it off. If you're using GW super glue...

In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

Hmm, I remember my first metal model... a Zoanthrope. It took me a few weeks to get the thing to stick. I tried glue, pinning and greenstuff and ended up using a combination of the three combined with a lot of patience. And it recently fell apart anyway! D:
Best way to go (for me anyway) is to pin the heaviest bits or bits that require anti-grav to stay on, and use greenstuff instead of glue in between the parts.

Dust one side of the bond with bicarb.

Not liberally smother. It only needs a very small amount. It can often help.

Stop using GW superglue. It's crap and overpriced crap at that.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

I always score or rough up the parts before gluing. Metal resin or plastic.

Gives the connecting parts some tooth.

I always give the parts a quick wash and a good dry before working on them.

Just use a dab of glue as well, less is more when it comes to most adhesives.

Just be careful in the long run. The Bicarb sets the superglue instantly, but the resulting bond can also be a lot weaker, than if you had let the glue set by itself.

I pin the heavy stuff, and rough up the other stuff with a bit of 80 grit sandpaper. Darn metals have a smooth surface, so nothing to grab onto.

Sometimes, for itty-bitty stuff that's not gonna fall off from weight, I'll primer then glue, so the glue can grab that instead.

Yes i agree with everyone here; do not use GW super glue under any circumstances. It is overpriced and ridiculous and doesn't work at all. I find that your best bet is to get a pack of 10 superglue tubes at a £1.00 store or 99 cent store (whatever you call it in America). And as has been stated, use a little dab of super glue. Less is more

Pinning is a technique where you drill two holes one in each side/componant of the joint then you line them up using a pin or piece of paperclip and superglue, I usualy put a drip of glue on each end of the paperclip although this can get messy If your not using tweezers, then a drop on one of the componants and smoosh them together.

as already stated rough the surfaces up either with your knife or some rough sandpaper for the glue to hold onto and make sure the parts are clean, release agent left over form the molding process can work on the superglue aswell making them impossible to stick together....

my personal favorite superglue is zap, which is american and pretty good but locktite are doing a glue with a rubber compound which gives the joint a little flex..
