I have been beating around starting my first SM army. I picked Space Wolves. I like the idea of giant wolves riding in to comabt and thier fluff.

But i seen a lot of space wolves and was thinking about how to do them differently. I was tossing ideas for the wolves with a Local store owner and some friends. A concept that came up was Lizardman.

Yes lizardman, Space Lizards Concept was born.

The whole idea came from a wolf lord on a Carnosaur. I loved this idea. i had seen a army with Dark Elf cold ones as biker scouts and thought it was realy intresting.

Temple guard shields for termys. stuff like that.

So was wanting to see how others thought of the idea.

No offense, but I think this is a horrible idea. Space Marines riding Wolves is bad enough, do we really need Space Marines riding Dinosaurs?

I completely agree with coolyo. I already hate space marines enough as it is. Have mercy. Please.

On the other hand, it's really no sillier than riding wolves, so why not?

To avoid (or at least minimise) squealings of 'heresy' from SW players, you need to call them Space Lizards or whatever (replacing 'Lizards' with something sexier: Geckoes, Dragons, Iguanas, dunno) and give them different background fluff, but they fight in a SW-like style and so count-as SW for all rules purposes.

Before you start spending big bucks, work out the availability of all the models you'll need. You've already mentioned carnosaurs counting-as thunderwolves (hmm, sounds a bit big?), and cold ones counting-as bikes, so what will count-as 'ordinary' wolves, and are there any other models you were planning on lizardising, e.g. Stegadons counting-as rhinos? (I'm kidding, but you get the point)

This has been done a few times before and if done correctly can looking very striking.

I have been working on a single models for paint comps and what not of a Salamader, Space marine that is on a thunder lizard(thunder wolf). I have not finished him as of yet. But I like the way he looks and will be happy when he is finished.

Good luck

Had the idea for a while now, seen it done once or twice (the carnosaur mounts, not the super campy space-lizards concept). Carnosaurs are expensive minis, but they are of a very good size to be a mount for SM minis. I say go for it if it makes you happy. Besides that, carnosaurs have been a mount option in 40k since at least 3rd edition, I think they may even go back to rogue trader. There was a chapter approved article years and years ago about 'xenos mounts' etc. and one of the options was... a Carnosaur! There are also references to them being used by the Exodite's as mounts, so really the 'space dinosaur' thing is more realistic (so to speak) than the wolves riding wolves concept.
