This is a Librarian in Termie Army I just completed for my Deathwatch themed army. Unfortunately, he's not completely converted for Deathwatch, but it's harder to do with Terminators than it is with regular power armor dudefaces. I haven't set a chapter affiliation for him, since the chapter pad is covered up by the book, so it's probably easiest to just call him a Black Shield...

Anyways, I'd appreciate comments and critiques as I try to improve my painting skills. Whenever I photograph a model I've "completed" I always seem to find little spots that I didn't catch during touch ups that I have to go back and fix...

Thanks all.

First of all, I think you should redo the base, the coarse pebbly surface doesn't really look right. Also, this doesn't immediatly make you think of the Deathwatch. A bog-standard Epistolary with a silver arm does not a Deathwatch Marine make. It would take a lot of conversion work to make him into a real DW marine, as, AFAIK, there are no Deathwatch Terminator parts in production. Anywhere. In fact I've never even heard mention of Deathwatch Terminators.

Its lacking contrast, everything is to dark.
And its always a good idea to paint the base aswell, since the natural colour of rocks/sand or whatever in some way does not match great with painted mini's.

That's all I can give you, don't know anything about that deathwatch what Valkyrie just said. But this is what I do know.

Good luck

The Kill Team in 'Warrior Brood' has a White Consuls Terminator, so they do exist.

Also, doing a conversion to give him the deathwatch shoulder pad would be very difficult. As you say, there is no pad out there for a Deathwatch Terminator. There's not too many options available to make it look exactly as it should, so I've done it to as close a standard as I can without destroying the model. The only thing I can come up with to try and do it, would be to grind away the Crux Terminatus and sculpt a new Crux with the Inquisition's symbol integrated into it

There is an "Inquisition" shoulder pad (which I always took to be a Deathwatch pad) in the Terminator box set if you wanted to add one of those to the model?

This one I believe...

I've made an attempt at making my own Inquisitorial pad for a terminator, but it didn't come out quite as well as I'd like...

Gonna go back to the drawing board with a pad that has a crux terminatus on it and sculpt from there, but I most likely will not be tearing up this Librarian to give him the pad if I get it looking good.

I would have painted his tabard the color of his original chapter, so long as his original chapter color was bright, say a blue, green or red. It would have given the model some contrast.

I'd also recommend redoing the base, I'd remove the block thats on it, paint it brown and reflock it in a finer grain.

Other then that it looks good.

Now that I've had time to sit back and look at it again, I think I'm going to redo the tabard in red for the Inquisition, and do a finer grain like you said.

Thanks for the comments
