I usually screw up the pronunciation and turn the Kee sound at the end into a Chee sound at the end. Like cheese, but without the S sound.

It's based on the Latin word ecclesia, for a church (singular) and the Greek ekklesia for a church also.

The Greek gives you the big clue as to how it is pronounced. Assuming it follows Greek and Latin pronounciation norms then it is roughly:

Eh klee's ee arc ee

The ' denotes a sound that it is clipped a short sound not a long kleeze but a clipped klee's sound. It should be more 's' than 'z'.

MA in Ancient History is occasionally useful!

However, given that it is not real you could probably pronounce it however you like! I always get stick from my way of saying Leman Russ!

Automatically Appended Next Post:
That's a hard 'c' in arc btw, no soft 'c' in latin or Greek, i.e. no 'c' sounding like 's' - Caesar is pronounced Kaeysar, no Seezer.

It's real, and used in "modern" churches.

I surprised my Mother-in-law by knowing what a censer was. I'd seen the GW model of a Nurgle plague censer bearer

I've used beastmen and dark elf models to teach Greek Mythological monsters to sixth graders. Knowledge garnered from 40k can be relevent. After all, which is better for a child's attention span: a picture of a monster in a book? Or a monster that you can hold and see every aspect of.

On topic, Eh Klee See Arc Ee. Man, it would be easier if Dakka allowed the stress marks above the vowels.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.
