Hey dakka, long time lurker, first time poster here. I've been painting for a while now, and I'm finally getting around to upload some of my stuff here. This is my Imperial Guard force, the 743rd Cadian Shock, the 5th company to be precise.

The 743rd is currently deployed on Okearis, an ocean mining world with a single major continent and a multitude of offshore mining platforms. The forces of Chaos, made up of a number of cultists and warbands from several of the Traitor Legins, are attempting to transform the planet into a daemon world. Several months ago, they captured a freighter enroute to the world and detonated its warp core in low orbit, creating a localized warp anomaly. Daemons, cultists, and other sundry unpleasantness spilled forth from the warp gate, overruning the relatively small capital city and leaving only the offshore platforms in the hands of the Imperium. Sector command, upon learning of the invasion, dispatched the 743rd, as well as a number of other Cadian and Valhallan regiments, to contain the situation, while the Ordo Malleus and a strike force of Imperial Fists rushed to assist. Now, the 5th company fights through the capital city of Okearis Prime, escorted a Mechanicus bridgelayer towards a vital span that cuts through the heart of the city and would give the attacking Imperial forces an avenue straight into the heart of the enemy camp. That is, if they survive...

Any comments, concerns, etc, welcome and wanted!

I really like the look of these guys, and I'd love to see a whole army shot!

Here's some critique:
Veteran squad 1, fire team 1 is very dull for veterans. The rest of your vets have some character, with different heads, bits of kit, and those cool sergeants. These guys look good for standard guardsmen, but I like seeing vets dressed up a little.

Why did you choose purple for the base rim color? A dark brown, grey, or even black would look good and match the scheme, I just find the purple a bit distracting. Other than that your painting is solid, and your scheme is good looking. I really like the freehanded suits on the Sentinels, it's a great touch.

For the next level of painting on these guys, I'd love to see you paint in their eyes. To me it's what really separates a mini from looking like a "toy" or a "painted model." Paint the eye area black, then use your tiniest brush to just put dots of white on either end, leaving pupils in the middle. With practice it becomes second nature, and is a great finishing touch for a mini.

You've got some good work; sorry if I sounded overly critical anywhere in my post, but I like how they look!

Im loving the color scheme for your Cadians! My Cadian 333rd Army is primarily Blue with codex grey fatigues. I wanted to go with a Mini Ultra Marine look with the Blue armor plating. Your scheme is eye catching, I really like your Sentinels. If you get a chance check out my Demolisher I posted earlier today along with my Pask Model and give me your opinion. Keep up the good work man.

Looking good! Glad to see I'm not the only one to give name/story/background to my units. I will second about vet fireteam 1 looking like plain ol' guardsmen. For instance, the 317s vets are painted in a blue uniform to give them a differance (because the shotguns weren't enough!). So let that show, don't need to kitbash to make them stand out, just give them a slight difference in their paint job can be enough.

In your wardrobe, looking for Narnia.

They look very nice, but the yellowish pictures make it a bit hard to tell the true colours. Not that it matters much, they look good in yellow.
I like it how you gave them a background and names, it adds a lot of character to the army.

Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate it.

As for the purple, it actually fits the bases really well in person. It helps the bases pop, I suppose. I was originally doing different colours for each squad, but when I finished basing my Kasrkin, my store manager commented that the purple fit the bases really well, so it stuck.

Yeah, that first fire team really needs a few more doodads and whatnot to pull it together. My next set of vets will hopefully be a bit more personalized.

That yellow comes from me accidentally using the "sunset" filter on my camera. If you look at the pic of Veteran Sergeant Lazarus, his pic was taken using the "Macro" filter I believe, and shows the model's true colours better.

Again, thanks to everyone!

Coming up - Sanctioned Psyker, tanks, and first platoon!

Looking good, altough as the other says, the light in the pictures makes them pretty dufficult to see all the work. I'm having some problem with seeing the paintjob on the clothes, altough it looks good as far as I can make out!

Not a big fan of the mixed camo (green/light brown) but it is well painted!

Quarry. Sentinal Club, did you paint that or did you manage to find a club transfer!? I had to change the suits on a deck of Imperial Playing Cards to Spade, Diamond, and Skull. Imperial Playing Cards seem to only have 3 suits.....

That's a freehand. The club was definitely the hardest of the three to do. I didn't even think of doing a skull. I actually just painted another one with a diamond for a speed painting contest at the LA bunker. I guess a skull is next.
