Sitting on the roof of my house with a shotgun, and a six pack of beers

Hi All

I recently started as gaming club, and it has inspired my Father to take up wargaming again, problem is we don't play the systems he is used to i'm more of a 40k player.

He hasn't played for a while, nearly 30 years, so i'm not sure the systems he is used to are still going, so i'm looking to find his a substitute he can get into and maybe I can introduce to the club.

WW2 and Napoleon are his preferred periods, he used to play a lot of Napoleonics (not sure of the exact system but its at least two because he had 28mm figures and at a guess 1:72) and has a fairly large microarmour army.

Obvious WW2 would be Flames of War, however it would involve him buying a new army so he might be a little reluctant, can anyone recommend a system or point me in the right direction?

Same with the napoleonics? is Black Powder by Warlord any good?

thanks
Spank

Blackpowder would be perfect for him... I say that as a man who started gaming 28 years ago!

For Microarmour use Blitzkreig Commander 2.

But there are loads of options out there... I just bought Waterloo from Games Workshop to use with my 28mm Naps.

Rapid Fire is popular and I've heard it can be played at any scale..

Though I've only seen it played at 1/72 and 1/76

Lasalle is good for Napoleonics.

I do hear that Lasalle is good though I myself have never played it.

Black Powder I enjoy alot and I Would second the recommendation on it.!

I would recommend Lassalle also. I have the rules and knowing nothing about Nappy stuff other than in general, it caught my attention. Easy to play, and has just enough chrome for someone not familiar with the period to feel comfortable starting.

For micro armor I am torn. I have both Blitzkreig Commander and the rules published by GHQ. Both have their own charm but I am leaning towards the GHQ set. I am still not convinced that Warmaster is the right gaming engine for MOdern or WW2 gaming.
