I run a growing Bretonnian army, and I was wondering, should i get a set of dice with the fleur-de-lys as the 6, as army themed dice.

My superstition is that themed dice always roll poorly. However, they're always on rounded edge dice, which I really don't like the feel of. I don't need my dice to be razor sharp or anything, I just don't like rounded dice.

My Dakka dice seem to do just fine for me

I would say go for it. I'm a fan of themed dice myself. Just show them to your opponent before the game so that he/she understands which face has the symbol ( usually it is the 6, but sometimes it is the 1).

I have a mix of both. Hehehe, I'm an evil bastard. I always let my opponent pick them up and check though, or I do it for him and show him the flip side.

I'd imagine Chessex, as they do most specialty dice and I'm sure they've had an order for Dakka dice before. Call and ask them. Worst case you describe/show a picture of what you want and they'll do it. They do requests. The people are really nice too. I've met them at ICON and PAX.

Dakka dice are a DCM perk.

Dakka Dice: While not a constant perk, from time to time dakka branded dice may be offered up to DCMs (and only DCMs to keep them exclusive).

I agree with SRM that the rounded edge dice tend to roll more poorly (they are certainly less impartial, according to Louis Zocchi). But, on the other hand, at least you will look cool when you roll a bunch of ones. I use themed dice sometimes, and I like them, even if I do suspect they are trying to hose me.

Personally, I don't like themed dice.

Most players roll their dice so the opponent can see them then pick them up and roll them right away. When you have ordinary dice (or at least pipped), your opponent can quickly see what dice succeeded or failed.

However, with theme dice (assuming you're not replacing the pips with fleur de lis) it takes a few extra seconds to register that the big icon (whether it's BT cross, an Ork glyph, or GW logo) is a "6" or a "1". If your opponent picks up his dice quickly after rolling, it give him the opportunity to cheat.

A cheater's going to cheat no matter what. You can't blame all that on the dice they are using

Thats my opinion on rounded dice too. I have a set of rounded dice, that are only used when I have to roll to many die, and wouldnt you know it, out of like 20 of em, less then 5 will ever be over 4+. They are awful, Id rather use non rounded die

I never take my own dice, that way me and my opponent have to share so if their rigged we both role realy well.

I don't care what kind of dice you use as long as they are consistent and similar. Different colors are fine.

If your going to use dice with a symbol, please just have them all on the same numbers. I ran into a player with some dice symbol was on the 6, some was on the 1, it was highly annoying. He didn't understand it until I asked to use his dice for a turn. Then he realized its insane to keep track of.

I use privateer press dice. All the symbols are on the 6. I use different colors for different weapons rotating between orange, black, white. I will also swap in Flames of War England dice occassional pending weapon shots. Example, if I rapid fire 9 bolters and fire 1 missile. I'll use PP dice for the bolters, then the large english dice for the missile.

So, where can I find some cool dice? Bitz Barn has some nice ones, including Inquisition themed, and they're only $1 each.

It's easier to notice a cheater using standard dice than a cheater using modified dice.

I like the Gale Force 9 themed dice. They always use the 6 for the symbol side.

A friend who is a regular opponent hates the GF9 WM Faction dice with a passion.

That could have a bit to do with me rolling 18s to damage his Khador jacks under pDenny's feat turn.
Vs others they seem to roll normal.

I really just like that the symbol I want to see is on the 6.

I've been considering getting custom dice since both Minions and Retribution came out after GF9 lost the license to do the dice.

Bam, said the lady!
