So for my next modeling and painting project I am thinking of creating a PDF army for fun. I would like this army to be semi fluffy in that i want them to be an army that not only defends the planet, but also as a semi-police force for the planet. This means that i want the PDF to be somewhat lightly armed and with a paint scheme that seems not too military. For this I was thinking of using Shadow Grey for the uniform, black for the chest piece, and mordian blue for the shoulders and helmet. Then it came to me of what to paint the vehicles in my army. I feel using blue or shadow grey on a Leman Russ will look silly if not done right. So any advice on a paint scheme for this PDF would be greatly appreciated, or advice on how to paint vehicles to fit the scheme i was thinking of.

I think the colour scheme suits fine for the guys, maybe have black chest piece and shoulder guards with blue helmet. The only way you're gonna find what you like is by test painting some models. For the tanks I would advise just grey with small details picked out, almost like they didn't want to pay to spray the tanks for the Planetry Defence Force.
Weapon wise, autoguns if you can convert or obtain them would suit better than Las, heavy weapons you're looking at GL's and Autocannons. SHotguns would suit veterans squads as well.

I'm working on my own form of Police/Planetary Defence Force.
Mordian Blue is a brilliant colour to use, it's the perfect 'Police-blue' tone. Clip off the shoulder pads and paint them up like the sleeves so it looks like they were never there in the first place. That will leave you with just the chest piece. This will help distinguish them from military-grade Cadian models. Also, stay away from Greens or Browns in large quantities. I know certain police forces may use these colours but when done on a model covered in armour they make it look too militaristic. Try white on the hands too to give the effect of ceremonial gloves.

Allright thank you for the ideas and outside thoughts guys. i'm definitely considering using that idea of clipping off the shoulder pads. cant wait to get my first test models built and painted.

I think the scheme looks good where it's at. But I will have to say, I like the idea of black chest armor. More of a police feel to it.

I like the idea for the guys and maybe do the armour with a gloss finish so they seem like professional and confidence inducing to citizens? The tanks and vehicles I'd say use a camo scheme in the same colors as if they are setup to defend the hive. I think those colors and a Berlin brigade or a splinter pattern camo would look perfect.
