Hello Dakka,
I am starting warhammer 40k finally and I was hoping I could get some opinions on a DoA list I am working towards:
HQ:
Librarian - shield/Lance or fear the darkness, Jump Pack
Honor Guard - x 4 Plasma Guns, Jump Pack
Elite:
Sang. Priest x 1, Jump Pack
Troop:
Asasult Squad x 10 - Melta x 2 Power Fist
Asasult Squad x 10 - Melta x 2 Power Fist
Asasult Squad x 10 - Melta x 2 Power Weapon
Fast Attack:
Vanguard Veterans x 5 - Thunder hammer, Power Fist, Power weapons x 2
Vanguard Veterans x 5 - Thunder hammer, Power Fist, Power weapons x 2
Heavy Support:
Devastator Squad - Missle Launcher x 4
Devastator Squad - Missle Launcher x 4
I already dont like the Vanguard Vets weapons outputs, but I just dont know where I can put those points to make an impact else where. Their current loadout gives me some redundancy in that they each can hit tanks/Monstrous creatures/good armor save units but they are expensive. As for Dev squads, they are there to sit in cover and take shots at things for a turn before my Jump Pack troops come in.
Also on the troops I can drop the meltas from the squad with a power weapon and add flamers, but I figured my anti horde would be my close combat.
Any help would be great, thanks!

Well, its a semi-DoA list. If the Dev's work for you, fine. But they do not really synergize well with DoA units when it comes to speed and reserving the whole army. I'd keep the Vanguard Vets as cheap as possible - 5 men with power first are 175 pts.
Assault squads should have power fists as they are Dreadnought insurance.

DoA probably won't work with Devs. Reason is you will deploy the Devs on there own while everything else is in reserve leaving them to be the only units to be shot at by the opponent.
I'd also put a power fist on that melta Assault Squad.
The rest seems pretty usual.

Thanks a ton for the feedback!
The Dev Squads were there just for long range support, but they are sitting ducks... if I drop them that frees 260 points.
I could another 10 man assault squad with flamers x 2 (for things in cover) and a power weapon, and change the power weapon to a power fist on the other squad.
This would leave 25 points. If I turn the VV into the version you mention I will be left with 145 points. (I apologize if my math is off)
Anyone have suggestions at to what the 145 points could go towards?
*edit*
Sorry I was writing when you posted Mercer, lol! I think I agree with you on the Devs, in theory its nice but against a list with a lot of long range shooting they wont last.
Thanks!

Damn! thats a lot of marines! Haha.
I like it though, I really like the Vanguard Vet weapons, I will have to try them out. I am shooting for 1850 so I will have to trim a list like that down.
I am still worried about my anti-tank, I will have 6 melta guns and 4 plasma guns (for lighter AV). I suppose the VV counts as anti tank.
I will have to drop in right in front of the parking lot and hope to disable some shooting then weather return fire with Shield of Sang.
Great advice, please feel free to add more!

Check points as that list is meant to be 2k and I swear I've put a Assault Squad too many in there.
Vanguard were a good all round unit. Had power weaps and hammer for infantry, hammer for monstrous creature with the odd power weapon wound probably and against tanks the hammer and melta bombs.

I went back and tweeked the list with your suggestions
Librarian - jump pack, shield and Fear darkness
Honour Guard - jump packs & 4 x plasma guns
2 x Sanguinary Priests - jump packs
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x meltagun - sgt w/ power fist
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x meltagun - sgt w/ power fist
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x meltagun - sgt w/ power fist
10 x Assault Marines - 2 x flamers - sgt w/ power weapon
Vanguard Vets x 5 - Thunder Hammer, 2 x power weapons 2 x Melta Bombs
Vanguard Vets x 5 - Thunder Hammer, 2 x power weapons 2 x Melta Bombs
Again, I know people say to keep VV as cheap as possible, and I think that this load is as cheap as possible while at the same time allowing me to handle tanks/2+ save things.
I also added a second priest, I might be able to land my honor guard near where the VV need to be to give them FNP/FC. But definitly depends on what army I face.
Thanks!

If you want to hybridize your DoA list a little, look for stuff with at least a little synergy. I use Baal Predators since they can come out of reserve in an interesting way (outflanking). A pair of dakka-Baals (assault cannon, sponson-mounted heavy bolters, storm bolter) can come roaring off the board edges, using their Fast speed to get into position, and shoot the bejeesus out of everything that gets in their way.
Dakka-Baals will also have a psychological effect on your opponent. Since they know a crazy fast tank or two could come screaming off the short edges they will tend to clump up in the middle of their deployment zone, probably giving you lots of room to hide your airdropping assault squads behind terrain in assault range.

Thats intresting... I do eventually intend to buy tanks of some kind. Partially to enhance how my display shelves look and in case I want to run mech Hah.
I love the threat of a Dakka Pred. I have seen them do some great things.
As far as the DoA version looks, do you think this can be at least a starting point in a competative scene? I know DoA requires a lot of practice but I hope to have the building blocks in place in this list
Thanks for the input everyone

One thing I would mention: Plasma Guns seem to have fallen out of fashion, whereas Meltaguns are all the rage. Not only are Meltaguns 5 points cheaper per model, they're assault weapons with 1 higher STR and 1 better AP that add armour penetration against vehicles. Generally, you won't have to worry about Gets Hot! as an MEQ army, especially in that unit, but it's something to consider when firing 8 shots a turn with them. On the downside, meltaguns have limited range as well as fewer shots. Of course the choice is yours. The list looks good otherwise!
