Somewhere, somewhen...a particularly burly but lone ork looked up at the twinkling night sky and thought to himself "I'm gunna 'ave me alla'dat. I jus' needs a kunnin plan." So resolved, he then headed off to find someone to come up with 'Da Plan'...

This was the beginning of Waaagh! Mugduffa.

Orks, orks, orks, orks!

With my Space Marine army nearly finished, I am looking towards another project. I am not makin' no more stinkin' humies! This may not ever become a full army in its own right, but the opportunities for conversions and general tabletop mayhem are just too good to pass up, so I shall start small and think big.

Before I go mad trying to gather up enough hardware for my Orky madness, I need to decide what kind of army to go for. A core of shoota boyz and Lootas seems like a good start, with Killa Kanz and Deff Dreads providing some added clout. I am mainly wanting to base my army around Orky mech-ness, with Mega Armour, Dreads and Kanz aplenty.

Wow. After a lot of scrounging about I have managed to gather up enough plastic to form the core of an ork army.

Black reach Ork Boyz. Love 'em. Blown away by the sculpts. Just as I was with the Space Marines. So much detail and character for a starter kit!

Only four bits to glue together. Simple stuff.

Cleaning up mold lines etc is a little time consuming as the Boyz do not have the smooth lines of the Marines. More fiddly bits to clean up. Still...wait...

WHAT WAS I THINKING!

So. Many. Boyz. I am gonna get blisters on me fingers!

Gotta love those AoBR Boyz, so many gitz for so little cash.

It's not so much the prepping that's the issue for me as getting that many of the blighters painted.

Promptly avoided by choosing to go Mechanized and concentrate on Trukks, Wagonz and uvver Gubbinz.

I always admire someone who is willing to take on the massive task of painting hoards of Boyz.

Good luck and I look forward to seeing this batch painted up.

Production continues to grind along. These boyz are going to take an age to build and paint, but if I get them right, I have a solid core to build the rest of my army around. I need to get them looking as nice as I can, even if they are just my grunt infantry, that way the rest of my units are not just icing on a turd.

With that in mind, as I scrape and file away, my mind turns to painting. I am still undecided for what clan to go for. I think I am going for a desert theme for the bases and weathering, but for the main colour scheme...I just don't know!

With regards to skin, I stumbled upon this tutorial: http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/394533.page

And I am going to have a go at following it, because the end result seems rather nice. The devlan mud wash will leave it a bit shiny for my tastes, but that is why Purity Seal holds a special place in my heart.

IMO I think all the models are pretty nice looking, sure the core (boyz and tacticals) are kindda bland, but still nicely done. The nobz look great and are huge, and the boss.....seriously, I love that Warboss sculpt.

Hur...stink'n Goffs, let dem run up wiv dere choppas an sluggas. We'll wait, den blow sum holes in dem Oomies just as dey get dere

So, finally settled on a clan for my Orks. Deffskulz. I like the idea of a gang of ladz out on the rob.

"Get da prybarz out ladz! Deyz been nailin' down da best bitz!"

So, rust, blue paint. And also lots of nicked Ultramarines kit. S'already blue, see?

Phew, after much dithering and delay, the core of my army. 40 ladz all ready to get suck in.

Next up, a warboss to lead them, then undercoating and painting aplently. After all the white from my Space Marine army, this might be a nice change.

For the first ten models.

Time for a prototype boy. The first of many. And as there are so many, I need a quick and painless paint scheme in order to preserve my sanity. These boys are the rank and file, and I will be reserving my special attentions for the characters and vehicles.

First off, I undercoated with chaos black spray. After that was dry I watered down the Gretchin Green foundation paint and put a couple of coats on the bare flesh.

Next came a quick wash of Thrakka Green. I applied two layers of washe to mute down the Gretchin Green.

After the wash had dried, I went over the shirt with watered down Mordian Blue foundation. The trousers got watered down Astronomican Grey foundation, for the leather gloves, boots, straps etc I used Calthan Brown foundation. Metal got a quick lick of Boltgun Metal while the teef got a dash of Bleached Bone.

With all that dry, I gave the whole model a wash of Devlan Mud to bring it all together and voila!

One boy. Nothing at all fancy. And on his own rather bland...but with 39 more around him, I do not think they will look half bad!

Next up. The first Kan.

As with any Orky invention, you begin with a pile of scrap.

Separate it into useful chunks that sort of seem to fit together.

Install one terrified Gretchin with no idea how to control his new body and hey presto...

One very Orky deff masheen.

Thanks chaps! I am really rather pleased with how the prototype turned out. Just need to get busy production lining the mobz. This has been delayed a bit after I ran out of spray paint and drained my supplies of two pence pieces. If nothing else, this holiday season has allowed me to gather more expendable currency. Stupid humies, using metal instead of teef. I got much better uses for it!

After a very pleasant Sunday (after getting some Christmas shopping out the way) I wandered into my local GW to get some hard core, distraction free construction done. The usual array of store kids kept to themselves, got asked a few questions about converting and building, and showed a chap who was having trouble with the wings on a daemon prince the glories of pinning.

Come closing time, 6 Deffkoptaz done, another ten boyz sorted, the two nobz built. Not bad. Thinking of sacrificing 3 koptaz so I can build some mega armoured nobz...for no other reason than I want to. Will have to check points later to see if this is feasable or not.
