Hey!

I recently posted my first video to YouTube, and have realized that getting noticed at all is a combination of hard work, consistency, creativity, community and chance.

I was curious if the Dakka community has a presence on YouTube, and if it is, are they mostly associated with Wargaming - or not at all. I.E. Do your videos reflect your Hobby? Or are they unaffiliated?

Why did you create a YouTube account? To comment? An introduction video? A video response? To be a part of the community? To share something that you made, or saw, or envisioned?

Do you have a viewer base? How did you get started? Did you have friends watch the video out of a favor, or was your video so awesome it gathered enough viewers to get them coming back for more?

Any (relevant) comments would be appreciated!

I have my own channel. It's not hobby related, I just post up music vids. Feel free to subscribe. Maybe it's a good idea to post your youtube channel here and ask for other dakkanauts to subscribe. The more subscribers, the more publicity.

I created mine to keep track of my favorite music, as I tend to forget the name of a song I like.

And the purpose of this thread (or was) was to discuss how to get going with a subcriber base, and how to spread your video faster, not necessarily promote it. Although no-one responded to that, so I'm unsure now.

to spread your video further, you need to promote it. The more subscribers to one's channel, the more promotion. The more promotion, the faster your vid spreads.

I was unsure how the mods would react to that. I know you speak the truth, but the mods have recently had their work cut out for them in this forum, just don;t want to add fuel to the fire.

He seems to know his stuff, but what exactly is the purpose of his channel? His bio doesn't really explain that.

I've got a channel that originally started as 'derp herp I can watch 18+ videos' but I eventually started to upload stuff on it. Mostly TF2 related.

Thank you for the support, but I don't think I will amend the original post. I asked the mod Manchu about what I could get away with in the thread (I.E.), and this is what he said:

That's a good question and thanks for PMing me. If your (youtube) channel was about (even if not primarily about) table top gaming, then I would say that this is no problem. For example, posting a video battle report in the battle reports forum along with the "be sure to subscribe" message would be okay. Same goes for painting and modeling tutorials, RPG reviews, tactics discussions, etc, etc, in their respective sub-fora. But if your channel would only fit in Off-Topic then it's probably not appropriate and really is just spam. I hope that answers your question but feel free to PM back otherwise.

So the advice? Advertise your video to the audience it was intended for, because if you don't narrow it down, you won't get anywhere.
