Trying to get a good highlighting job on my talons but so far every thing comes out one color. How do i make it look good???

Try painting it with a lighter red, could you tell us what color you're using?

What I did for my red talons was red gore base, dry brush the sharp edges with blood red, then a slightly lighter drybrushing (same area) of blazing orange. Picks up the contrast like crazy (imo).

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?

To highlight red you should try Orange instead of a lighter red
