Wondering Why the Emperor Left

Edit: Sorry about any mistakes, I'm typing on my iPod

I was playtesting my new elder last week and the first game I had ever playlist with eldar, I lost horribly. I killed about 110 point while my entire force was wiped.(500 pts) here is my list.

Farseer
Jetbike
Runes of warding
Singing spear
Fortune

6 Jetbikes
2 Shuriken cannons

6 Jetbikes
2 Shuriken Cannons

Vyper
Elder Missile Launcher

His list (from what I could see)

Librarian
Epistolary
Gate of Infinity
The Avenger
150 Pts

Scout Squad
Heavy Bolter
85 Pts

Scout Squad
Missile Launcher
85 Pts

Scout Squad
75 Pts

Land speeder
Heavy Bolter
Assault Cannon
90 Pts

Land Speeder
Multi Melta
60 Pts

545 Total

This being a 500 point game him being 50 over could have made a difference. Anyways here's how it goes

Turn 1: Eldar: entire force moves up, and shoots. I kill land speeder with the Vyper and 2 scouts with the shuriken cannons. I use the assault move to hide everything in cover. Farseer fortunes a bike squad
Salamanders: Librarian and 3 scout gate of infinity in next to my Vyper, they scatter 11 inches and land infront of my jetbike. Librarian throws down avenger and 4 bolter shots from scouts. Avenger hits all 6 bike and kills 5. Blotter shots do nothing. Bikers pas leadership.

Turn 2: Eldar: lone jetbike flies away to safety rest of my force shoots at librarian and squad, killing 2 scouts and wounding the libby. Farseer and Jetbike assault remaking scout and Libby. Farseer misses all attacks and Libby kills 1 bike
Jetbikes and scout do nothing. Bike fail leadership and run 10 inches just barely off the board.
Salamanders: kill Vyper

Rest of game was just chasing my last bike who's trusty 3+ cover save helped him untill he was killed bottom of four by a multi melta.

What do you think I could have done better, that being said I think the guy I was playing got caught up in theoment and forgot he didn't have an epistolary upgrade.

I think the whole setup is not in your favor, the jetbikes are rather expensive and not efficient against marines, while their toughness and armor save are not as good as against hordes. Also they have a moral problem, especially at 6 squad strength. The Vyper is also pretty fragile and dropped by one or two missile launcher hits. I have not much experience at 500 points, but I'd try 2 x 5 Dire Avengers (or something else) in a Wave Serpent and maybe a Falcon if the points allow it. This gives the marines something more tough to shoot at while you're more likely to kill something important. Guiding the Falcon (with EML) will give you 2 or 3 STR 8 AP 2 hits each turn at 36" range. Changes are high that you can drop his land speeder before he comes into melta range, eliminating the highest threat to the tanks.

Also, did I understand that you agreed on 500 points, but he took 550? This means he has 10% more army value, which indeed does make a difference.

Eldar
Necron
Chaos Space Marines
Grey Knights
Imperial Knights
Death Guard

I think advocating a completely different army kind f misses the point..

I started a thread about Jetbikes, and got some OK advise, mainly about unit size..here it is..

Assuming you are talking about Guardian Jetbikes, then like all the Eldar Troop units they aren't particularly good scoring units. Most commonly I see them used in 3 man units which reserve and basically hope to grab an objective for 76pts (usually give them a Cannon so they can at least JSJ if they come on early). Not exactly a great use of points because they are never going to kill anything, and if you aren't going last its not hard to remove 3 Jetbikes from an objective, but its the cheapest way to get another scoring unit (aside from 5 Avengers, who aren't really worth it without a transport). You can add an Embolden Warlock to this unit to make them more likely to stick around, but imo its not really worth it in this case because its not hard to kill what effective is 4 Marines. The next step up is 6 strong, with 2 Cannons + Embolden Warlock, which certainly will stick around longer, but its damage output is still pretty terrible. If its a themed army you could go above this I guess, but its really not worth it. At 6 strong it now costs over 200pts, which is more than enough for another Serpent + Avengers which is much much harder to kill, has better long ranged firepower (proper anti tank options if you need them), Ld9, similar short range anti infantry burst, the same mobility and is slightly better in assault (not that its worth much).

Shining Spears are a liability unfortunately, they are too expensive, easy to kill and really don't hit that hard. They certainly can't go up against proper combat units that would let them get their points back (with power weapons and/or invulnerable saves), are wasted on hordes, but can very easily bounce off basic MEQ since they lack attacks.

Warlocks on Jetbikes are decent, and are one of best tarpits and anti parking lot units in the game, but they are very dependent on having Fortune (which means they need a Farseer to tag along, which is the biggest issue with the unit), otherwise they die like Marines basically. I would never take less than 6 in a unit, they need the attacks to put out enough damage (which against decent armour saves is never going to be that great) and with less than 6 to start with a couple of casualties means the unit is basically no longer a threat. Generally you max out the unit size unless you are taking two or have to cut points desperately.

Tldr version: 3 Guardian Jetbikes with optional Warlock, or 6 with Warlock if are really committed to taking Jetbikes, but avoid units bigger than that.
