Something visceral, nothing like old school DnD games.

Dragon Age can do visceral certainly. As for MMOs, honestly, I ahven't seen an MMO where melee types were truly "visceral".

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Eh, I played Dragon Age, not enough variety in it for me to play it again. Haven't heard much good about DA:2. Mainly looking for something to play until Skyrim comes out.

AoC: melee classes are pretty fun actually, I just don't care to play that particular game. Warriors in WoW have fallen off completely save twinking at level 80 which gets old fast.

Warriors in WoW were never "visceral".

The average WoW player doesn't play the same game as me. Under exact conditions, they can be very brutal.

You could give vindictus a go. It's not too bad.

Currently my favourite melee action in an RPG was from a PS3 exclusive, so I don't think that'll help much.

Lineage 2 had some bad ass melee characters, when you chained some of the special attacks you could just decimate people.

it was also fun because you never knew other player's levels unless you partied with them so it was often fun to find an area where griefers hung about with your high level toon dressed as a lowbie and kick their ass when they tried to mess with you.

Orcs were terribly fun, if you got close enough for an Orc to hit you you were screwed. their chain stuns would have you standing there getting beat up forever.

Orcs were also great to farm with as they had polearm abilities and polearms hit everything infront of you in a 45 degree arc. it was very fun to aggro an entire dungeon and hide in a corner and kill it all in one attack.

Probably DCUO. The melee combat is so much fun (it actually manages to compete with most high-profile action games), but unfortunately, the game is unfinished and fundamentally broken in places. Not really worth a subscription fee, but I felt like I should mention it anyway.

Pain is an illusion of the senses, Despair an illusion of the mind.

Outside the DarkTower, amongst the roses.

Try Witcher 2, the combat gets semi deep at mid/end game, plus the story and presentation are both pretty good.

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss

You could try Titan quest. It's a very well done Diablo II clone that, while not particularly visceral, will keep you occupied for a long time with all the variety in the game.

Both of the Force Unleashed games are fairly "visceral", and Starkiller is without doubt a melee/warrior type character.

Is it fantasy? Nope. But still, it's fun.

No, they still just go "dink dink dink" until the enemy falls over

It's the nature of MMORPGs. They're too slow to really be visceral.

I think he was asking about games that are actually out. If we are talking about games in the future there is this little game coming out call Dark Millenium which has these really visceral warriors called Space Marines.

I second the Rifts warriors. As someone who leveled a warrior to 85 in wow, I've had more fun getting to 35 in Rifts. There is waaaay more customization, playing a riftblade, teleporting around slaughtering mages and rogues in pvp is great.

Demon's Souls for PS3. If you are too cheap to get a PS3 these days (At my local used CD/game store, they are $79.99), then wait till October and get its spiritual sequel Dark Souls which will be on the 360 as well as the PS3.

You know in my head I had typed a more elaborate post that explained the game wasn't too close to release, my bad.

I was pulling 50k Raging Blow crits at 80. You can get up to 90kish crits before factoring armor reduction if you stack the right stats.

Yeah...

If you get a crit for 100 damage, it looks the same as a regular attack for 10k damage.

If you think Visceral is "Yeah, I kicked his virtual ass with my l33t critz G", then you need to think about what that word really means.

Other players have 40kish HP at 80. Elites have 100ish. Being able to kill everything in 2-3 crits is ridiculous.

It's been a while since I've played AoC. Barbarians were fun.

I'm aware of the stupidity that was Wrath's health pools, and the stupidity that was Fury Warriors at the launch of Wrath.

I'm still saying that it did not make the game visceral.

Visceral definition wrote:characterized by or proceeding from instinct rather than intellect

Warcraft cannot be "visceral" by definition. It can be fun, it can be ridiculous, it can be whatever.
But it's not visceral.
