Hey guys,

I'm on the market for a better airbrush. At the moment, I've got a Badger Air-Brush Co 250 Basic Spray Gun:
Included Features:
- External mix
- Low maintenance
- Easy to clean and operate
- Single action
- Siphon fed
- Wide spray only (works well for base-coating and vehicles)
- Pain in the neck to adjust
http://www.badgerairbrush.com/BADGER_250.asp
Paid $40

I was looking around at a few finer-line airbrushes of the dual-action variety, and found the Iwata-Medea Revolution HP BR Dual Action:
Included Features:
- Paint Reservoir: 1/16 oz. (1.8 ml) Gravity-Feed Cup
- Nozzle: 0.3-mm Screw In Nozzle
- Trigger Action: Dual-Action
- Spray Pattern: Hairline to 3/4 in. (20-mm) Round
- Replaceable Teflon™ Needle Packing
- Solid Ergonomic Handle
- Adjustable Main Lever Tension
- Easy to clean and operate
http://www.iwata-medea.com/index.php/products/br/
Price: $80 (with S&H/P&P)

Is this a good airbrush?
Will it be difficult to graduate from a single-action to a dual-action brush?
Is it a good deal, or am I being ripped off?

If anybody has any suggestions, comments, reviews, or such, please let me know. Have an alternative airbrush in mind? Post it. Asking how I survive? Will power and pizza.
I've checked reviews all over, and they're generally quite good. But I wanted YOUR opinions prior to my decision.

Thanks

I prefer a Paasche Talon airbrush. Perfect for the hobby at a decent price. Can do small detail work or do large surface areas like tanks.

The BR is a solid brush. The color cup is a little small, I manage to spill out of the larger CS cup...so don't lose the cap. ANY gravity feed double action is a step up from a badger, which you probably know. Which is not to say that it's a bad brush, it is and was the ubiquitous hobby spray gun for decades. It's worth looking at the Iwata NEO which has removable color cups and comes in at 45 USD, and the Passhe talon that has extra nozzles and needles included. My dear old mum is getting back into AB after about 20 years and we figure the talon is ideal for shooting anything from ceramics glaze to varnish.

Just to clarify, the specific Badger he is stepping up from, the gun type. There are other dual action, gravity fed Badgers that work great.

Alright, I've heard the Paasche Talon pop up twice, and looking it up, it's got pretty good reviews, and good bang for the buck.

About how much are replacement parts for Iwata brushes? Paasche replacement parts are cheaper (or so I've heard).

That could be the selling factor.

I'm getting to the point where I generalize things to they way I remember them. Yes Badger does sell a line of DA gravity feed brushes. But my memories were formed in countless craft stores with dusty shelves stocked with badger 150/250 spray guns. I feel like if I had thought to design a miniature flamethrower shell for it I could have sued GW for ip infringement, sigh lost opportunities.

I also highly recommend the Talon. Upgraded to this model myself, after I started out with a Rich RB-2 Dual Action gun. (My impressions on the gun: http://ik-painter.blogspot.com/2011/08/advanced-tools-iii-rich-rb-2-airbrush.html )

Try to get the set version with 3 different needle sizes - this will greatly improve the versatility of the brush.

Be prepared for somewhat of a learning curve - but once you mastered the dual action system you'll be wondering, how you could ever do without ;-).

Cheers,
