So, I was looking into starting an IG army, and I like the backstory and the general makeup of an Armageddon Steel Legion. My question is:

Are the Forgeworld Death Korps models generally accepted as ASL models? If I painted them up with black helmets and tan trenchcoats, would I get DKoK loyalists pointing out that my units are DKoK and not ASL? I like to use authentic models (I'm a bit of a purist) and GW doesn't offer the ASL boxes anymore. I was just trying to get a concensus of what other gamers thought.

You can use whatever you want and call it whatever you want, but DKoK are not now, nor will they ever be, Steel Legion. Thats really the only way to put it.

Bwahahha. I'm not laughing at you, I'm laughing at the sad fact that one of the most badass, and expensive armies. ASL. Is not only OOP but that an arguably more expensive army is your only alternative.

From a purely modeling stand point Kriegers have a longer jacket, and a little bit more anatomically accurate and detailed models. To me they are interchangeable, as the army is really determined by how you play it. If you have the clams to drop on DKoK I say do it. Some other options might be some SHS pickelhaube heads on Cadians but you really lose the overcoat style.

Nevermind.

They do still offer Steel Legion models, they're just in the Collecter section of GW.com, and I hadn't checked there.

Maybe you'll get really lucky and they'll failcast them.
Also I stand corrected ASL still in print.

you can still find steel legion on GW's collector's range. Or you can try ebay, I've bought two squads and several others from ebay. I got the steel legion commisar, ork head sergeant, and a plasma gunner from GW

Yup plenty of action on steel legion on ebay, in the last month i bought 3 x greade launchers, 2 x 10 man squads with serg's and missile launchers and a bloomin great big 3000pts+ ASL army with a baneblade and a muck loada chimeras, russes, a basilisk and a hydra, cost me a pretty penny but is worth every last penny that was pretty.

Back on topic though i was thinking similar things like i wanted the OOP DKOK commisarr on horsey to use as lord commisarr or company commander and a few other krieg models would slot into ASL fantastically without looking even a smidge out of place imo.
