Hey,

I am wondering if it is legal to have a flamer and melta gun in the same space marine battleforce?

Question is unclear.

do you mean Squad, or the battleforce as in the boxed set?

a 10 man squad can only have 1 special and 1 heavy weapon. Flamers and Meltaguns are both special weapons so only 1 in a single squad. the sergeant can have a combi weapon, which is a bolter and a 1 shot special weapon.

if you have multiple squads you can have different special weapons in different squads.

and 5 man squads can't have special or heavy weapons for some odd reason. you need 10 per squad before you unlock the weapon upgrades.

the codex has all of this information BTW. get one

I assume you put one on the combat squad.

just get another 5 marines and you can keep it. GW sells a box of 5 bolter marines(which you could give an extra heavy weapon from the Tac squad sprue)

This is to prevent heavy/special weapon spam. Not that odd of a reason if you ask me.

Actually this allows both to happen. you can end up with 6 special(with 6 combi) weapon squads and 6 heavy weapon squads without too much investment in points.

it just forces both to happen together.

To be clear, a tactical squad of 10 guys can have 1 special and one heavy weapon. I won't put down the points and such, but since you're a new player, I think it might help to see it spelled out.

10 man squad can take one, and only one, of the following special weapons:
A. Flamer
B. Meltagun
C. Plasma gun

That same 10 man squad can also take one, and only one, of the following Heavy weapons:
A. Missile Launcher
B. Multi-Melta
C. Lascannon
D. Plasma Cannon
E. Heavy Bolter

You don't have to include any of these, but since most options are relatively cheap in a tactical squad, you really should take a heavy and a special weapon.

The sergeants can also take weapons and options (Plasma pistols, power weapons), but I'm not going to cover those here.

Did that help, Honaw? If you don't have the Space Marine Codex and the Basic Rule Book, those should be your next purchases.

Good then. So, if you read through the tactical squad entry in the back of the book, does it make more sense now?
