Apparently at PAX, the guys who made MNC are now making a free DOTA like shooter with new classes and more

Uh, it's not defense of the boredom-inspired. There were plenty of tower defense games before defense of the whatever.

I do enjoy the idea of marrying the concepts of FPS and tower defense, it certainly made MNC quite fun.

The people in the past who convinced themselves to do unspeakable things were no less human than you or I. They made their decisions; the only thing that prevents history from repeating itself is making different ones.

Same, the only real problem the game had was that the Support class was overpowered as hell.

I've never feared Death or Dying. I've only feared never Trying.

The style of it reminds me of TF2.

DOTA was the titular reverse tower defense game. The genre is actually more commonly known as the DOTA genre (to be fair, reverse tower defense takes more typing EDIT EDIT: Then again RTD takes even less...)

EDIT: The game also doesn't have to be the first of its kind to inspire imitation.

Indeed, look at Halo; it sure wasn't the first FPS, but it WAS the one that revolutionized the genre and made Recharging Health so popular.

Indeed. I could see someone playing DOTA and thinking "how awesome would this be as a shooter with a dash of Unreal Tournament?"

A buddy of mind got the MNC four pack for us and I feel a little bad for initially blowing him off The game's not bad but the classes are unbalanced, the maps smaller than I'd like, and I'm not a particular fan of TF2's friendly look alike anymore than I am of TF2. But it is fun with friends. I see no reason not to get SMNC if it costs me nothing. We'll play some blitz
