Subject: Power Stone, Power Scroll-lite?

So since the Power Scroll is now useless I was thinking I would take the Power Stone instead. My Question is, does the Power Stone allow you to use more than 6 power dice to cast a spell?
in the little red book it says on pg 32 "At least one dice must be taken from the power pool, and a maximum of six dice can be used on each spell"
then in the power stone rules it says "...two extra dice are added to the power dice that he is going to roll"
This makes me think that I should be allowed to pick 6 dice, then power stone and throw 8.
Any thoughts?
If anyone has the BRB handy I would appreciate somebody taking a look, I don't want to post the whole paragraph on the internets.

Based off the two quotes provided, the extra dice rule does not specifically override the maximum of 6 dice rolled per casting attempt.
Take for example the Focused Rumination power of a Slann Priest. They are allowed 1 bonus die to each casting attempt, and the rule as written is that this allows the Slann to cast with "more power dice than they are normally allowed." That would be specific permission to override the 6 per spell maximum.

The rule still allows one more die than normally allowed.
This ruling however means you get no extra dice while the PD pool is full.

Good thoughts. The most the power scroll is going to do for you is lower the target by what, 8? You can't use boosted spells with it. A power stone on average will give you +7 to your casting attempt, which also helps you get over the "don't roll 2" minimum and can be used on boosted spells. And it costs less too?
Is there ever a reason to use a power scroll? Less chance to miscast?

Spells that cost 25, e.g. Curse of the Horned Rat, still benefit a lot from the scroll. It reduces the casting value by 12, so on average by 3.4 dice, aka 4 dice.
But in general, yes, I would take a Power Stone over the scroll.

The only reason to use a power scroll now is to cast a spell with less dice than it normally would have required (e.g. dwellers, okkams, etc)
Of course this makes it easier for your opponent to dispell as well.
If you are using 3 dice instead of 5 to cast pit of shades, then your opponent needs only 3 dice for a decent chance to dispell than 5.
In the end im not seeing a reason to pay points for the power scroll at all, especially since it takes up an important arcane item slot.

I'll have to double check the wording of the rulebook in the BRB, but I think Hover is right. I was thinking the same lines as him, that the power limit refers to a maximum of 12 dice in the pool at any one time. The bonus die would count against that limit, so if you rolled box cars on your winds of magic, then you could not use rumination on the first casting attempt as that would give you 13 dice, one over the power limit.
A power scroll definately took a nerf, but can still be useful. There are circumstances where it could be very handy to use after your opponent has exhausted his magical defenses for a turn. Instead of being overall powerful, its now very much a situational item at best.

This right here. For certain spells with high casting values, the power scroll means I can still throw 5 or 6 dice at it and have a chance of succeeding, but without the miscast the old Power Scroll practically guaranteed. Granted, the enemy can still try to dispel; but when you throw as many dice as you previously would have at it, they had better have kept a bunch of dice in reserve (meaning your other spells get through). This is especially true for Skaven Grey Seers, who already come with d3 warpstones which are similar in function to power stones. (One a 1-for-1 instead of 2-for-1 basis though.)

I think this is the best change in the history of 8th, for whatever that's worth.
Of course, as an Empire player, my swarms of dispel dice may bias me a bit.
