Ok, here's the deal. I'm a bit of a newb, only ever having played two games before in my life (and losing both horrifically a long, long time ago). But, I've decided that I shouldn't have given up so easily before. So, now I'm getting back into the game, and getting into my local store's routine. As if by fate, it turns out they're having a "Flash Tournament" for 500 pt armies, and I figured this would be a great way to earn some experience in the game. Due to the additional special rules, which I'll list below, I've decided to do Ork, and I've come up with, what I hope to be, a sweet little force to manhandle anything that comes my way. Though, some critiquing would be great, especially since this will be my first time using orks (instead of getting swept by them. )

DA RULES
Spoiler:
• You must have 1+ Troop choice and a minimum of 2 non-HQ unit selections.
• You may only have 0-1 HQ selection, even if allowed more than one such selection per HQ.
• You may only have 0-3 total Elite, Fast Assault and Heavy Support units combined.
• You may only have 0-1 non-HQ unit with more than 2 wounds. Minimum unit size is 1 model, maximum size is unit’s original minimum size.
• No independent characters or HQ selections with more than 2 wounds.
• No monstrous creatures.
• No units with a toughness over 6.
• No equipment or upgrades with 2+ saves or models with 2+ saves.
• Vehicles squadrons may only take their minimum number of models.
• No vehicles with a total Armor Value greater than 33. Calculate this by adding the Front, Side, and Rear armor values (counting the Side once).
• No units with Ordnance weapons
• No Special Characters

DA ARMY
HQ- Big Mek with Kustom Force Field - 85 pts

Elites- Tankbustas x 5 with Bomb Squigs x 2 and Tankhammers x 2 - 85 pts

Troops- Vanilla Ork Boyz x 30 - 180 pts

Heavy- Looted Wagon (using an Ork Trukk as Counts As) with Reinforced Ram - 40 pts
Killa Kans with Kustom Mega Blasta x 2 - 110

DA GENERAL IDEA
Spoiler:
My basic strategy for this is to have the Big Mek in the Ork Boyz, to prety much provide a cover save as they footslog to the enemy, have the Killa Kans as Anti-Vehicle Shooters, and place the Tankbustas in the Ork Trukk for capturing objectives and also a secondary Anti-Vehicle force, with the Trukk itself focusing on Tank Shocking, if I ever get the chance to drop off the Tankbustas. Due to the limiting rules, I couldn't take a Warboss, nor could I take a Deff Dread. Sound good?

Comments and concerns would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really not a fan of tank bustas personaly and since this is your only fast unit it's gonna be the first target of your enemys long anti tank and at 500 pts with those restrictions I would say that lootas would be much better as they pop transports and can lay down fire on troops. Also the boyz need a power klaw nob with bosspole to keep them from running and give you some heavy hitting cc power which can also serve as anti tank. This would be the kind of list I would run at 500 pts with thos restrictions:

Big mek pts.85
kff

(6)lootas pts.90

(5)lootas pts.75

(30)shoota boyz pts.250
nob w/pk,bp
3 rokkit launchas

total: 500 on the dot

So the lootas set up in the back in cover and pop transports and troops while the mek runs with the boyz giving them cover. If your dedicated to Kans though I would suggest giving them rokkits as they are cheaper and with the kans better bs they actually have a chance of hitting something.

Big Mek, SAG, Ammo Runt - 98

5 Loota's - 75

12 Boyz, Trukk, RPJ x2 = 224

Killa Kan, Rokkit - 50
Killa Kan, Rokkit - 50

499

Checked rules, ammo runt allows you to reroll SAG scatter etc, and in this size game, SAG is pretty useful.

Thanks for the input, guys, this really helps. Though, I do have a couple questions, just to clarify and figure out exactly what my strategy should be.

I can definitely see how the SAG Big Mek would be a monster, especially being able to just slaughter anything in its 2nd turn with a 60' (assuming the table is 6'x4'), but one of my concerns would be line of sight, while not moving him so that he can fire (same with the Lootas, too. How do you compensate for the Orks not-so-hot BS, and lack of mobility with Heavy Weapons?). What would be some ways around that? Also, how likely is it that the SAG malfunctions, and I mess myself up instead?

Another personal fear of mine is the small Troop choice; if I'm outnumbered, I'm basically screwed, right?

But defintiely a good call on the Rokkits with the Kans. One point in armor piercing isn't really worth the extra 10 points, is it.

If you read above, I kinda have a general worry for Heavy weapons on infantry and cover saves when it comes to orks, so any tips for that as well would be great.

Also, why a Nob with Bosspole? I mean, the Power Klaw is quite tempting, but with Orks' Mob Rule, wouldn't they be Fearless with 30 members?

Thanks again for the help, I really do appreciate, and I apologize for being so newb-ish when it comes to understanding these lists' intricacies.

Nob needs a bosspole because in the list i made its a trukk squad, lose 3 people and thats a LD check, so bosspole to reroll the pathetic ork leadership. Well 500 pts is pretty fun which is why the SAG is a nice weapon Even if it does fire the mek, assault the unit! I4 on the charge at S5 and 4 attacks, thats 1 attack less than a nob with choppa and slugga, wounding on 3's, not bad tbh, it also holds up that unit so you're trukks can get their safer - i had a trukk destroyed by a bolt pistol before, it was horrible - and the other bonus with trukks, is you can pivot them on their side to provide cover for the Kanz.

Also lootas are basically mandatory in every GT list, so positioning is all down to you, there should always be line of sight, deploy them in the middle of the board very far forward, preferably in a crater, that way the 48 inch range is always applicable, and most of the board is covered, same with the big mek. Btw i like to look at lootas in a different way, say i rolled a 3/4 on the dice for shots. Each loota has the same shots as a hydra flak tank >_> just 24 inch shorter range, and lower BS. Look at them that way

You definitely want the power klaw, 5 attacks on the charge, 2s to wound, power weapon, its the punch of a nob squad to be honest, in bigger games most nob squads field 3 - 6 of these, so fielding 4 is 20 attacks, that'll kill the marine squad on its own, 4s to hit, so 10 hits, 2s to wound, so about 6 - 8 dead marines

If you want, change the red paint job to reinforced ram, that means the trukk can tank shock, so you could ram the unit, it could flee off the table, then you can assault the other unit nearby? Sound good? (assuming of course not every army you play against is a space marine one)

You can't use the SAG as it is an Ordanance weapon and you aren't allowed it :( Would be pretty beasty otherwise.

Ork rokkit launchas are not heavy weapons they are actually assault weapons so you can move, shoot, and assault with them. As for bosspole yes you are fearless until you hit below 12 but since this is your main heavy hitter in your army It's good to make sure that there is no chance they are gonna run since if they are below half strength(which they would be if they aren't fearless anymore) they can't regroup and are just gonna run off the board. Ork leadership is not that great and it's only 5 pts to give you a better chance to keep them in the fight. No need to apoligize for being new we were all new at one point so we all know how that is.
