Who else is stuck inside this weekend while the hurricane will be raging outside? I know I am, so I stopped at the GW to get something to paint.

I know off the top of my head at least 12 people who'll be affected quite majorly. Most live in the philly/NJ area, though my aunt lives in Virginia Beach, and wasn't responding to anything recently....Maybe she left..

Virginia Beach is mostly alright right now as far as I know, we still have power in my area of the city but the hurricane should be actually overhead at about 2:00pm, it is currently 10:00am and really rainy and windy. The highways leaving the area were packed so if she was leaving then she was probably not in the mood to talk to anyone after sitting in bumper to bumper traffic for lord knows how long.

A bit of news on the Hurricane for you folks, its moving slower than it was supposed to be. Now that doesn't mean the wind gusts are smaller, it just means the hurricane is lingering around a lot longer than it should which means flooding may increase. It was supposed to hit Virginia Beach at about 2:00pm but is now projected to reach at about 6:00pm.

On a side note, the mail was still delivered.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Power went out at about 6:30 so this is from mobile. Not too bad still, but 6 dead so far in Virginia and North Carolina, mostly people driving around. Water main break in Norfolk adding to flooding there.

Swell is probably not such a good choice of wording if flooding is likely.

Sorry to here people have already died, and hope for everyones' safety

Weathering it out at home...bored. I give thanks to the emperor that I have dakka here to soften the boredom. It's also annoyingly humid. My parents stacked and covered everything in the fridge with ice in case of power outage.
Another funny thing is, at the supermarket this morning, I noticed alot of the shelves containing bread cheese and fruits were empty. Do people expect themselves to be trapped home for a whole week? Or are they panicking, and wasting money on unnecessary inventory? My vote goes to the latter. Not the first time I've thought that people are stupid. Certainly won't be my last. Anyway, my gf called twice already. We won't be seeing each other for an entire week, due to my classes starting next Monday. (hopefully) We're going to be missing each other, and the "missing" will be heightened since we're going to be stuck inside for about two to three days. A few of my friends had to move on behalf of the mayors orders. One of them is in my basement right now playing World of Warcraft. (God i hate that game. It's everywhere I look, even in my house while trapped in a hurricane.) Going to hope the flooding doesn't go beyond the first two zones, or I'll have to move also. And not only that, I'll be pissed about leaving my new computer behind, that I built three days ago. I also have a sore in my throat that may or may not be strep throat, and it's annoying. Thank you for the warm wishes dakka.

I will always be grateful because I remember I've had less.

Sorry, but I was kind of hoping Norfolk would be flooded. Actually if you guys could just flood the ODU campus I would appreciate that... I don't want to go back to school, senioritis and all.

Power came back at about 11:00pm which is really awesome and completely unexpected for us. It seems to flash off for a few seconds and then come back on every once and awhile but its not staying off which is a good thing.

The storm lost it's momentum just before hitting Brooklyn. A friend in Coney Island said flooding didn't even make it above ground level from the beach. The storm settled down for now, although I suspect we are only in the eye. Not as bored as I was yesterday, but I do tend to be grumpy when stuck in my home for more than 15 hours.

I have a lot of family and friends on the east coast. About half live in SC and they didn't need to evacuate, but several others in other states had to evacuate but they're alright.

Also, I keep thinking of OP: Irene every time I hear something about Hurricane Irene. Too much Black Hawk Down for me I guess...
