Prior to last month, I took an 8 month break to 40k. When I started up again, I had found two crisis suits where missing an arm ( could not find them at all) and one suit was missing a Missile Pod (oddly enough, they were all the same squad) I searched for the bits, but could not find them, So I rummaged through my bitz box and found two arms and three Missile Pods. I glued them on my painted suits without painting them (not thinking at the time about how they would look, just wanted them WYSIWYG). So my question is two part:

1: If i just paint the gray arms as is, what would happen?

2: could I take a can of spray paint, spray a flat surface, and use that surface as a Palette to paint the gray bits?

Help me oh Lords of Painting!

Just prime the arms with chaos black paint (not spray) it works the same,. Then paint over it.

What kind of glue did you use? If it wasn't plastic glue or gorilla glue, just pop off the bitz and paint them the normal way.

Painting without priming is asking for chipping. The plastic surface is smooth, and doesn't hold paint well. If you have a paint-on primer, this strategy will work, otherwise I would advise no.

I don't know how well this would work, just because I'm not sure how fast the paint will dry, or how it would effect your brushes, ya know?

If you're really desperate, just strip the whole miniature, and do it all over again, but that's a bit time consuming and painful (stripping your own paint job).

Good luck

You can paint directly onto an unprimed surface. It will not hold as well as normal and will most likely chip off easily. If you use a foundation paint it won't be too noticeable.

You could also prime just the arm by brushing on some black gesso. I have used it and love it. I won't be spray priming units ever again. (vehicles, not as great for). I have heard that white gesso is not as good though.

Ok, so there IS a paint on primer? Awesome.

Where would I buy the Black gesso? (Chaos Black is easy enough to buy.)

Artist stores causally carry some. I use the liquitex brand. If you are considering it check out this article. http://www.dakkadakka.com/wiki/en/Priming_With_Acrylic_Gesso

Black gesso is a great idea, completely forgot about that option.

Just make sure its the black variety, I bought white and it isn't nearly as good.

That's what I do. Get a fairly large brush and bam, basecoat done.
