I was wondering, what with the great success of the HH novels, if the 40k fan base would purchase a campaign book for the Great Crusade. Filled with army lists, personal characters etc...

Not to mention, it might be a great opportunity for some new figures not based on the present factions. Maybe some of the other xenos that figure prominently such as the Laer.

My particular gaming group has really mixed feelings about the viability, but then we did rewrite the Marine Codex to suit ourselves and balance out the Chapters with flavor.

If you like the idea, what would you want to be included in such a book?

I know I'd buy into it, question is, what do you folks think?

I think a pretty strong argument can be made for the fact that every single codex would need to be radically altered, or dropped entirely, to fit in the 30k setting, and for that reason I don't think GW or FW have any plans for the setting. As cool as it would be, it wouldn't bring too much freshness to the tabletop, other than tweaked armylists and the need for different paintschemes and decals, and I think your average fan wouldn't be willing to invest in an entire new 'historical' army for a single expansion (case in point, when's the last time you played the fairly recently released Planetstrike expansion? Would you have invested in a new, Planetstrike exclusive army?)

That being said, I still think it would be an awesome endeavor, if GW or FW did it. Forgeworld has never been afraid to release tweaked or rebooted lists, and GW, even as recently as the Eye of Terror, strayed into that territory, too. Until then, we've got fan-made works, such as Warhammer 30000, by Fly Lords of Terra, to work with.

As an Apocalypse-sized expansion it could be pretty damn cool. I'd see Forgeworld doing it first though.

I think we'll see 6th edition replaced with an all new HH edition... tournament legal, but doesn't replace any 5th edition codices. So you could field pre-HH 1K sons against 40k Blood Angles (for example).
