So, I've already got my Blood Angels Descent of Angels army set and ready to go, and it looks like I'm going to have some spare parts. Just for kicks, I decided to grab a copy of the vanilla Space Marines codex and build an army for my second favorite chapter: the Salamanders. I'm curious to hear what you think.

HQ

Forgefather Vulkan He'stan

Librarian

Chapter Master w/Thunder Hammer
3 Honor Guard, 1 w/Chapter Banner, 1 Champion w/Thunder Hammer, mounted in a Razorback w/Twin-Linked Heavy Flamer

Elites

Dreadnought w/Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta, mounted in a Drop Pod

Dreadnought w/Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta, mounted in a Drop Pod

Troops

10 Tactical Marines, 1 w/Meltagun, mounted in a Rhino

10 Tactical Marines, 1 w/Meltagun, mounted in a Rhino

Fast Attack

2 Land Speeders w/Heavy Flamer, Multi-Melta

Heavy Support

Thunderfire Cannon mounted in a Drop Pod

Notes: The HQ units all pall up and ride around in the razorback acting as troubleshooters. Drop Pod Assault allows me to put some combination of my Dreadnoughts and my Thunderfire Cannon where I want them on turn one. The land speeders can either start deployed or deep strike, depending on the situation.

3 hq choices?

Conduct While Gaming
While rolling a die, do not say, “Anything but a 1!” unless you wish the die to come up as 1. Any other such attempts to anger the “Dice Gods” will result in the existential equivalent of continuously flipping a coin and having it come up heads every time (for reference, see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). Your dice will be cursed to roll ones for everything other than morale checks, which will come up sixes.

ORK PLAYERS HAVE A LIMIT OF 1 SCREAMS OF WAAAAAAGH PER HOUR. violators will be forced to play tau.

Players with chimeras and las weapons shall pronounce chimera ki-mere-uh, not chim-ere-uh. Violators will be forced to play nothing but world eaters. Non-40k personnel must purchase and build a chimera.

Allright a few things your only allowed 2 hq choices in the vanilla space marine codex. And since your only playing at 1500 points I'd stick to 1 Vulcan that being said I like the fact your using dreads in droppods but thunderfire cannons die to easily. Here is a list I'm currently testing out.

Forgefather Vulcan Hes'tan 190 points
Tac Squad+5 flamer, ml, Razorback- twin-linked assualtcannon 245 points
Tac Squad+5 flamer, ml, Razorback- twin-linked assualtcannon 245 points
Tac Squad+5 meltagun, mm, DropPod 210 points
Dreadnaught multi-melta, heavy flamer, DropPod 150 points
Dreadnaught multi-melta, heavy flamer, DropPod 150 points
Predator- Lascannon sponsons 120 points
Predator- Lascannon sponsons 120 points
Landspeeder- mm/heavyflamer 70 points

Wow. Only two HQs? Odd. Blood Angels get three...

Anyway, if I drop the Librarian and the Thunderfire Cannon, I've got enough points to put my HQ squad(s) in a Land Raider Redeemer, which is pretty neat and stylish. It also equips them to come out either shooting or swinging, depending on the situation (Assault Vehicle is your friend). That also means that all I need to buy to build this army out of my spare parts is one rhino, the multi-melta bits for my rather battered second-hand land raider, a Chapter Master, and Vulkan, which isn't that bad at all.
