Hello everyone
I am looking into wwII games and came across something called Rapid Fire! while at a convention. it was really fun to play and allowed you to play HUGE battles in a very short time. it is played with 15mm-scale models. has anyone ever heard of/played these rules? i really want some info on this game.

Conduct While Gaming
While rolling a die, do not say, “Anything but a 1!” unless you wish the die to come up as 1. Any other such attempts to anger the “Dice Gods” will result in the existential equivalent of continuously flipping a coin and having it come up heads every time (for reference, see Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead). Your dice will be cursed to roll ones for everything other than morale checks, which will come up sixes.
ORK PLAYERS HAVE A LIMIT OF 1 SCREAMS OF WAAAAAAGH PER HOUR. violators will be forced to play tau.
Players with chimeras and las weapons shall pronounce chimera ki-mere-uh, not chim-ere-uh. Violators will be forced to play nothing but world eaters. Non-40k personnel must purchase and build a chimera. |

It does indeed have a large following here, used for 20mm games more often then 15mm though.
I don't like them, too simplified for my taste.

It's got an interesting way of condensing a lot of gunfire into one roll.

I have seen it mostly played in 20mm as well.
I am not a huge fan of the rules as they are written in the book but I have played in games where the GMs interpretation of the Rapid Fires rules has made for a very good game.

Played itfor the last 15 odd years...
Great fast play rules.
Now moved to KGN though I will always use RF2 for brigade encounters.
Lots of AARs posted here and on...

(Indeed Colin Rumford, the author of RF2, is a member of my forum! Great bloke and they have a new desert war supplement out soon and more underway!)

when i played it at the convention, the person running it was playing with 15mm terrain/infantry and 20mm tanks and heavy guns
also-would flames of war be better to play than this?

Thats subjective.
I think FOW has as much to do with WW2 as 40k and would rather pass a watermelon than play it, where as I would happily play Rapid Fire any day.
Your view may well be different.
At the end of the day, all rules have good and bad points (and Rapid Fire has some bits I aint keen on hence why Im playing alot of KGN) and which is 'best' is really better asked as ' which is best for you'.
What I like and think best may not suit you at all. Both are rules that give a sound and fast game using WW2 toys. Which you prefer and think 'best' is down to you to find out.

Couldn't put it better any other way.
Big P may not enjoy FoW - I happen to enjoy it immensely. And I'm sure there are a few games Big P plays that I wouldn't be able to stand. But, in the end, you'll have to make the choice for yourself.

Agreed. I don't like Rapid Fire but then again I'm not overly fond of FOW either, but I play FOW to fit in with others. That being said, we do play sensible (IMO) FOW in that we are not slaves to BF's highly questionable lists or points system.
Do what ever feels good for you and those you play with and you can't go wrong (although 20mm tanks with 15mm infantry?)

Actually, I have never even played FOW... I was just trying to reinforce a point that its all subjective!
But I cant go near 15mm WW2 figures... They make me come out in a rash and hyperventilate.

Doing a Soviet Light Tank Battalion atm, Zvevda T26's and BT-5's, a whole battalion for under £60! Now I love 20mm too but at those prices................

20mm is probably cheaper.... Dependant on the unit size of course.
A Panzer IV battalion for RF2 using PSC tanks comes in at £18.
Using Frontline Wargaming a BT-5 battalion in RF2 (7 vehicles) comes in at £34.95.

Ahh but this is 21 tanks 11 T26's, 10 BT-5's. thought about adding a T37 COY as well but that would cost as the only one's I can find are QRF metal ones.
