Another poll since I'm bored at work

Do you like games like Mordheim or Necromunda where your warband gets tougher and finds loot after each game? or more like a normal game with a set number of points and models/units that are always the same?

I really enjoy campaign style games, but if you don't have a solid group of friends to play with all the time it could be hard to play that kinda game.. so I guess normal games are better for the folks that play in game shops and stuff?

What do you like best?

I love scenario games and story-based campaigns.

I love campaign. As I always play with the same little group of persons, we haven't difficulties to meet regularly. The main problem is that we lack of people in numbers, to really make interesting scalled campaign. So we each use to play differents armies.

Definately campaign game, whether necro, mordheim, even 40k and fantasy as well as historicals.

Points battle games become boring and repetitive after awhile. Playing uneven games every now and then is much more challenging.

Our group has played several mordheim campaigns, necro, and are playing around with mighty empires (the original version). We also played the Generals Compendium map campaign for fantasy, and it was quite fun.

I'm hoping to get things up and running for a new campaign of something in the next couple of months.

Unfortunately I've never had a gaming group solid enough to do a campaign game. I would absolutely love to despite not having access to such a thing, and I know I'm not alone in this.

You know I'm right there with you, Red Two.

I keep hoping to find a group of people, 4-6, to do some fluffy campaigny STUFF.

Until then, I will build awesome terrain tables. IN HOPE.

Please, "The Future", do not crush my hope and dreams.

Campaign games are leading by a huge margin... and yet the skirmish games forum is almost dead...?

I'd love to play a campaign game, but somehow it has never happened. We got close with Gorkamorka, but after the first game everyone in the group but me decided they didn't want to play anymore.

Campaign games hands down. I just find the idea of a SM army getting better as they fight more battles to be rather appealing.

Brutal, isn't it? That's probably because the 'ard boys already HAVE their needs fulfilled.

Truly, you need a group of at LEAST 4 like-minded people, who are willing to play non-optimal lists, and/or a variety of points levels. A campaign system that's simple, doesn't require a lot of book-keeping. and an overall rah-rah cheerleader, who keeps things on-track.

If you think about it, that's pretty hard to find.

I noticed that. I tend to try to post in Mordheim threads, but after giving some advice, one usually never hears about the outcome. The forum itself tends to not be a place for a lot of batreps, etc. It would take a concerted effort to turn it around. That, and man of the games discussed are non-gw, while necro, gorka, mordheim, etc seem to be mentioned most in this thread.

On a related note, some of my campaign gaming has been in fantasy battles, with a little 40k as well, so they'd end up in batreps in the respective forums. I would love to play in one of those 40k campaign weekends that I always see over in the UK. THAT would be my kind of event.

Yanno, with the ready availability of UK-like train service here on the East Coast, that idea has MERIT.

Campaigns.

Having something meaningful on the line makes the game more important.

For team campaigns, you aren't just playing for yourself, but you represent your friends, too. So don't suck!

I love campaigns, but only if done right. I've part of some terribly run campaigns, and it was horrible.
