As we know....warhammer 40k can be EXPENSIVE! espically the bigger models (valkyrie, storm raven etc)... Recently i saw a graet post on here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/351232.page that dealt with substituting other models that look similar in structure to 40k vehicles.....
so i picked up the following kits....2 based on a recommendations from the linkk above..and the rest my ideas..... do you guys and gals have any other ideas for subs?

1. Star Trek deep space nine runabout ship
2. Star Wars Republic attack shuttle
3. Halycron drop ship from aliens
4. APC from aliens
5. Condor from robogear
6. banshee from haloclix
your turn!

Check out the Lander and Gunship from Old Crow. Two variations on the same fuselage
http://www.oldcrowmodels.co.uk/25vtol.htm

A bit smaller than the Valk, but around half the price. Here is the Gunship (green) and the Lander (red) compared to a Valk and Arvus.

I recently started an Imperial guard army based on Wargame Factory Shock Troops (fantastic stuff if you're wondering) ... Those for the base infantry with all the most german looking GW Imperial Guard bits I could find. I wanted real Leman Russ tanks, but they didn't fit the theme so I got Tamiya 1 48 scale King Tigers instead. Add some imperial eagles and heavy bolters and Poof! Perfect looking Leman Russ for my space natzis.

"Oh yeah ... You and what army?" ... "Me and my Zoats $#!&*! that's who!"

Sauce Captain, check out russian KV-2 (large turret version) tanks. They are ace for Leman Russ variants with a nice big exagerated (40k'ish) look. They even have a flat front panel where you can easily add a hull mounted heavy weapon.

Not a bad deal at $21 bucks for a kit that even includes photo etched parts!

Ok, we don't care how new you are FOLLOW THE RULES. On to the op, anything that fits the scale of 40k and theme you're going for works with some minor conversions and/or additions works.

Reminds me of the TSOALR comic where the Pointy Sticks fought the Epic IG army.

I couldn't see doing this for anything other than Guard (TBH, I don't really look outside of GW/FW for models, so I could be wrong) Since there are SO many WWII tank models out there.

Thanks, we do need ot stay on topic.... I agree... the Imperial guard could use tanks from other model companies... but only i think in ww2... newer tanks wouldnt look right, Lemun russ tanks look alot like (to me any way) like sherman tnaks

Every Dakkanaught gets a 4+ Pinch of Salt save.
When you suffer a Falling Sky hit, roll a D6 - on a 4+ the hit is ignored as per the Pinch of Salt save. On a 1-3 panic insues - you automatically fail common sense tests for the next 2 weeks and get +7 to your negativity stat. -Praxiss
