HIDING IN METAL BAWKSES!

As the topic says, what chapter, if any, is know for its heavy usage of TH?
Also, could I equip Assault Marines with TH, in the same way how the Raven Guard can equip theirs with LC?

Salamanders tend to use a few hammers! the rules vulkan gives them make them competitive plus they are all expert craftsmen and make and maintain their own weapons most of the time, a hammer being their sigil so very popular.

I believe Imperial Fists like the Thunder Hammer when in combat, probably because of the sheer power they have against armored targets.

Salamanders really like them, because of their connection to the forge, which is one of the recurrent themes for them. In point of fact, having Vulkan on the table makes the Thunder Hammers Master Crafted.

The Imperial Fists like them, and I think that it can be reasonably surmised that their successors probably like them too. I would guess that Black Templars, Crimson Fists, and all the members of the Dorn family tree would be happy with a big hammer.

Salamanders do, obviously! Considering that Darnath Lysander rocks a thunder hammer I imagine that the Imperial Fists fancy them as well, you know how ritualistic Space Marines can be.

Anyway, the Iron Hands tactical squad box actually comes with a couple of cool thunderhammers, so I'd add that chapter to the list.

What's more badass than a 10 foot tall superhuman swinging a giant hammer?

I'm aware, but being that he was a sergeant in a Terminator Squad, there was an element of choice in terms of his armament.

Now on to my second question: would I be able to equip Assault Marines with them?

You can only give the sergeant a thunder hammer in C:SM, but you can give everyone a thunderhammer (and stormshield for that matter) in a Vanguard Veteran Squad...for an exorbitant price. Hilariously awesome though.

Cool! That would be something I would try. I loooooove thunder hammers.

Granted you could just use Thunder hammer/stormshield assault terminators for a more reasonable points cost and equally cool looking models. But then again, having a bunch of jump pack thunder hammer armed marines is scary. A five man Vanguard veteran squad with all thunder hammers is 260pts...throw in the storm shields for 335pts, then add 10 for jump packs. Yikes. Would be fun to try and pretty sweet looking models.

You could always go the whole nine yards and do a ten man squad with jumps packs, thunder hammers and stormshields for 660pts for the epic lulz.

In the Deathwatch RPG the Storm Wardens are said to have created an entire fighting style based around the thunder hammer. They're a bit off kilter from what I can gather form them. Imagine william wallace from braveheart in astartes armour, surfing a rhino into battle. That pretty much describes the storm wardens. Also, they have a really bad habit of trying to fight things bigger than them, one-on-one. On a side note, Vladamir Pugh, the IF chapter master, has two thunder hammers. He likes to hit things with them, till they die or stop moving.

From what I understand, single and two handed weapons don't exist anymore. Now, you can just simply take whats in your options.

The Space Marine Captain/Chapter Master entries say they may replace their bolt pistol and/or close combat weapon with certain weapons, and thunder hammer is one of them.

Since you can replace one weapon for a thunder hammer, there's no reason you can't pay the same points and replace the other with a second thunder hammer.

Not to mention thunder hammers are listed in the rulebook as requiring two of the same weapon to get an additional attack, meaning weilding two of them must be possible.

Weilding a second thunder hammer, however, stops you taking a storm shield. Not so bad when those characters come with Iron Halos.

I'd guess storm wardens would be the best bet. Otherwise you could home brew a new chapter that's crazy about melee tactics revolving around the use of Thunder Hammers
