Subject: What army of second edition models best fits fith edition rules?

Despised Traitorous Cultist

Hello, first time here, looks like a cool site. Anyway I just started again in the hobby after some time away (about 10 years) and had some questions about converting my old stuff to fith edition. My two brothers and I started playing in the RT days and kept playing off and on through the start of third edition. We had an army of just about everything by the time we were done. Eldar, Space Marines, Tyranids, Squats, Genestealer Cult, Sisters of Battle, Imperial Guard, Chaos, Cultists, Daemon World, Orks, and a few Necromunda, Necrons (the first ones) and Arbites. I played third edition some, so I'm at least a little familiar with the force orginization charts etc. But some things just don't jive with the new rules. Squats, eldar guardians with lasguns etc. I'm fine with "count as", it works well enough for games, but if I wanted to be model correct what armies work best with the latest rules? Obviously things that don't exist anymore are kinda hard, but I'm curious because I don't want to go out and buy every new codex. Thanx a bunch for any help.

Orks. They're still pretty much the green-tide, plus bikes and buggies.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

When people ask, "What's the point in understanding everything?" they've just disqualified themselves from using questions and should disappear in a puff of paradox. But they don't understand and just continue existing, which are also their only two strategies for life. |

Space Marines. Tactical squads are still tactical squads, devastator squads are still devastator squads, and the modeled wargear at the time is still pretty much the same. Also, things like the las/plas razorback, which were taken out in 3rd ed, are back in 5th. My favorite is using my Thudd Gun as a Thunderfire Cannon in the new rules. I have a Rapier Laser Destroyer I'm hoping to run as a conversion beamer on a Master of the Forge as well.

I don't think anyone has even NOTICED my laspistol wielding assault marine. Some of the subtle differences you can just gloss over.

Cool thanks for the help. I should of guessed Space Marines wouldn't change much. I'm going to take my old RT mark 6 army to a shop and see what people say lol. I'll see how it goes. They're a little tiny by todays standards, but they're still space marines.

The eldar army has change very, very little from 2nd to now, with the exception of losing pirates, exodites (which never had models anyway), and lasgun guardians. If you have aspect warriors and/or shuricat guardians, you're pretty well good to go
