Are there any uses to having a big mek as an HQ that is just run naked (no upgrades)? For 35 points it seems like a steal to add in more stuff. Currently my plan is to run trukk spam with boyz and nobz, 9 trukks. I dont know what to add to this, maybe some bikes or FA choices. What do you think? I know I am going to hear the KFF arguement, but that just means the KFF trukk is going to be killed first.

My question is this though, what use is a naked big mek? Since you're trukk spamming then theres no point in getting a deff dread. If you're worried about your trukks needing repairs, then you shouldnt worry. They wont ever need repairs once they decide to get blown up or crash!

yes KFF is "OMG COOKIE CUTTER!" but its just too good at making everything survivable, especially with trukks.

For 50 points you can get another truck or a unit of Grots or a Buggie - all of these can be used to screen other units. OR for 50 points you can get a KFF and screen units within 6 inches of the Big Mek. The units of Grots comes closest to the KFF as they might be able to screen more than one unit. Spend the points on the KFF - youll get more out of those 50 points than spending it any other way. 6 trucks within KFF range vs 7 without - those 6 will last longer than 7 without.

If you think KFFs are too boring, then a Shokk Attack Gun is always good for a laugh.

A nudey mek does seem a waste of a HQ slot, unless you were honestly not going to use it for something else...

You will hardly get anything for 50 points that is comparable to your trukks being twice as survivable. The KFF is simply too good, there is no way around it, unless running all bikes.

kff... arguably the most useful thing in our codex...

ask ANY other army out there if it'd like to have 85 points for a 4+ save on vehicles the answer will be a resounding yes... hell yea

it honestly just sounds like you don't want an HQ... in which case go for it. it is your list, just know a kff is always worth it in an hq slot. even if it only stops 3 shots from killign trukks... at 35 points a trukk (bare) it paid for itself, on battlewagons it pays for itself on one save
