Hello folks.

I've been out of the groove when it comes to painting, with my job and whatnot.

I am in need of some good music that I can attain legally. Only making $5.80 an hour after taxes makes buying CDs difficult, because I like models more!

What are some of your favorite pandora stations to listen to while painting?

For those who don't know what pandora is, it is a website that streams music that is kind of related to what song or artist you pick.

Well it depends on what you like. I prefer some Dream On Radio for my classic rock fix, or I just listen to Christmas Radio. Year round.

Enya. No joke. I tend to get into my music, and my usual stuff (metal) tends to make me stab and slash when I paint instead of letting it flow. Enya keeps me calm and relaxed, and my painting skills improve.

Personally, Paul Van Dyk is a station that keeps me relaxed and focused. Lots of good trance and keeps a fairly coherent flow. If electronic isn't you thing, a Florence and the Machine or Foster the People station could fit the bill nicely.

I do not know Pandora, but i listen to SomaFM's channels. Usually Suburbs of Goa, Secret Agent, Groove Salad, Boot Liquor and others depending on mood/envy/etc.

They have quite a few different styles of music available.

Assemblage 23 radio is great for modelling.

Depeche mode for painting.

Maybe the occaisional nujabes or social distortion, or dead kennedys, I like dead kennedys radio when working on my nurgle CSM army project.

Pandoras great, i get my Metal fix there. Normally when im painting(most likely converting though...) i'll be listening to my custom channels, So anything Iron Maiden, Guns n' Roses, Mega Deth, Metallica, Dio, I really have a distaste for a lot of the newer stuff, i also listen to some "joke" songs or artists like Wierd Al, Stephen Lynch, Tenacious D(sometimes coincides with Metal) As long as its not Rap or Rap Rock(depending on the song, The Flobots are the exception).

That's awesome Jim, i listen to Enya too sometimes. My stations vary depending on what i'm painting. Terrain, 40k, Fantasy then if i'm doing mindless troop/core mass paintings, Lord/HQ painting, Tanks/monsters... whatever.

Mindless stuff: Station with every playlist i've got. Things from Enya to Placebo to BB King to Miike Snow to Brad Paisley. I listen to everything but Rap pretty much.
Detail Oriented: I usually stick to Enya or other 'tranquil' type music.
Large things (creatures/tanks/terrain): there is a lot of base coating i do and end up listening/watching tv shows on Hulu or Netflix. Then for when i start doing the details and such i'll throw on whatever fits the mood of the model.

You stick to one kind of music? or do you like to try new gak out? If so I could offer a lot of music... but in my experience the only one who truely likes my eclectic choices of music is my wife lol

99% of my painting time is in my local store. So whatever is on the staff's iPod that day. I don't expect them to play what I normally listen to (band like Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death and Asphyx) but they will occasionally play my MP3 layer if I put less "screamy" bands on it like Megaton Leviathan.

Would have thought Pandora would stream all the music at once except for some Hope. Guess you could take that as Bob Hope but not the rhyming slang.

edit: Clannad might not be bad whilst painting Wood Elves. Might try the Robin Hood soundtrack

It depends on my mood.

I have a Shoegaze/Dreampop station for when I feel like chilling, with School of Seven Bells, Tamaryn, The Joy Formidable, Wild Nothing, etc.
I have an Electronic/Aggrotech station for when I feel not like chilling, with Grendel, Combichrist, Decoded Feedback, Front Line Assembly, Imperative Reaction, Life Cried, Psyclon Nine, Retrosic, Life Cried, Stromkern, Suicide Commando, Wumpscut, etc.
Power Metal radio is obvious, complete with Sabaton, Dragonforce, Hammerfall, Amon Amarth, etc.
Then there's Trance radio for more chilling, with 4 Strings, ATV, Above & Beyond, Armin Van Buuren, BT, Cirrus, Conjure One, Cosmic Gate, Delerium, Ferry Corsten, Fragma, Hybrid, Kaskade, Morgan Page, Oceanlab, Paul Van Dyk, Plummet, Solar Stone, Ulrich Schnauss, whatever
My Synthpop/EBM station is a more general, with And One, Apoptygma Berzerk, Assemblage 23, Covenant, De/Vision, Decoded Feedback, Grendel, Iris, Mind.In.A.Box, Neuroticfish, Project Pitchfork, Stromkern, System Syn, VNV Nation, Evil's Toy, etc.

Oh, and I think all the generic Pandora stations are trash.

I actually often put on a TV series on DVD for background noise, or listen to the metal station on my satellite radio.

I don't always listen to Pandora, but when I do, I prefer my death, black, or "traditional" metal station. So this means stuff like Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Naglfar, Xasthur, Chthonic, Arch-Enemy, Dark Tranquility, etc. My preferences lean toward more melodic bands, though I'll headbang to The Berzerker or Cannibal Corpse from time to time.

I do have other stations that run a wide gamut of genres and artist... MGMT, Mister Mister, Nine Inch Nails, Maroon 5.... pretty varied.

Really, I don't listen to anything specific for painting, just the sort of stuff I usually listen to.

Eye of Terra.

I made my own station and I'm listening to it as we speak.

It's an eclectic mix with a lot of Electronic music thrown in.

Roisin Murphy, Arttu Wiskari, Mackintosh Braun, Autokratz, LCD Soundsystem, Maximum Balloon, Metronomy, Starfucker, Miike Snow to name but a few...

I don't know if this was directed right to me, but I'm going to answer it anyway.
Looking at some of the other replies, it seems that a lot of people around here really do listen to a wide variety of music. I'm seeing a lot of "anything but rap" and metal, both of which make me smile.

As for 'eclectic choices', here's my Pandora stations:
Johnny Cash: About the only 'country' I can stand, and his later albums are a lot more like rock and pretty heavy. I have to respect a country singer that covers Nine Inch Nails and Depeche Mode.
The Story (Brandi Carlyle): For my girlfriend, but I fine I like her... unorthodox singing. And The Story has become 'our song', I think.
Harry Connick, Jr: Again for my girlfriend, but I'm drawn to the older jazz style. ... is that jazz? Ugh, she'll give me a good bop on da noggin' if I get it wrong.
J.S. Bach: Because sometimes I need classical music.
Lady Gaga: Stop laughing. I like her style. Reminds me of early Madonna. I said stop laughing!!
The Bloodhound Gang: Because I need stupid humor.
Dream Theater: Because sometimes I like my songs to be over half an hour.
Ready Steady Go (Larc en Siel): I was in a mood and needed some J-Rock. Good for when I don't want to be distracted by lyircs (don't speak Japanese, so I tune the vocals out).
Enya: as explained above.
Barry White: Because ... Just because. It's feel-good music and I'm addicted to bass.
Edguy: Because I love cheesy 80's-style euro metal.
Nightwish: Because I also lvoe symphonic metal... and Tarja had/has an awesome voice.
Daft Punk: Because sometimes I need some thumping techno/electronica.

Every style gives a vibe and a mood. Sometimes it just depends on what I need at the time, what I'm building, what I'm painting, what I'm DOING.

I've got an interesting custom station composed of 90's USA rock.

I'm a 90's kid, what can I say?

Mix it up with a Nickelback station (Entered song name: "Something in Your Mouth.")

Need something a bit more coarse? I listen to a Disturbed Station (Entered song name: "Down With the Sickness.")

Why is it that only those who have never fought in a battle are so eager to be in one?
