Couple days ago I bought the menoth battlebox, and Its been working out awesome, winning both of the games I have played thus far. Buying the battlebox was really a test to see if the game was any good, and it was quite fun so im thinking about buying some more, starting with a new warcaster. Im hoping to make a reasonably shooty army, but not completely defensless in melee. I was also thinking about getting some paladins of the wall, because they are pretty cheap (a HUGE bonus in my current situation) and they seem really good as either a 2 man kill team oor as protecting your caster, especially as menoth casters can be a bit squishy in my opinion.

So, the point of this post -

What are the best shooty units/solos to go for first? (Except the choir, from everything I have heard the are a must buy)

Are there any warcasters that spring to mind for a range themed menoth army? I was thinking about pSeverius for a nice focus stat and an awesome feat, or possibly Reznik, who is quite good and offers some extra survivability.

Are the paladins of the wall worth buying?

paladins are decent, but i wouldnt invest in them until you get some other staples.

first off buy the choir, you have heard it right, they are seen in 99% of all menoth lists.

after the choir, a shooty warcaster could be pSeverius, since he has a spell that adds to all attacks in his control area.

sadly, direct fire guns in menoth are pretty rare. the faction operates more on AOE attacks and sprays that involve continous fire. if you want some solid guns in the list i would look at steelhead riflemen with an attendant priest. this or idrians, but fleshing out a full idrian unit can get pricey.

reznik is a jack focused melee monster. he likes 2-3 hacks and can handle himself in melee, especially with his spell "engine of destruction".

Welcome to the sport that is WM

Having a range themed army in Menoth is definitely possible, I just hope that magic is part of said "range." Severius is a very good support/ranged caster for he prefers to sling spells through arc nodes for maximum effect. To expand from the battlebox and you decide on Severius, I would keep the original arc node and grab Severius' character jack. One unit to consider would be Errants. They are pretty good at range (especially with help, ie UA/Covenent/etc) and are not useless in melee.

As for paladins, I almost never leave home without one and vilmon in a list. Vilmon is very point efficient for at 3 points he can take down a jack/beast himself and is hard to deal with when you throw impervious wall into the mix. I find it often best to just have him advance in impervious wall into melee range of your enemy. Most of the time your opponent can't hurt him and if they try to leave that's a free strike they will feel (P+S 15 + WM + Boosted). If you plan to sit back/play static and just sling spells/shoot, paladins are a good choice due to stone and mortar stance will keep them around most cases.

You are correct that some Menoth casters are very squishy. Because of that you may wish to consider a Devout as your caster defender.

So order of purchases to start IMO would be:

Warcaster (Severius in this case)
Errants
Vilmon + paladins

Good luck and have fun

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye....then you have an eye to play with!

You might also want to look at Roven (character unit) as he can allow you to ignore stealth and therefore get some more shooting that actually hits.
