Subject: Question about having no models on the board

I know you can start out with no models on the board (in fact chaos deamons have to) and that's fine. I also know that if you have models deep striking that don't come in before your whole force is destroyed you lose (happened to me with a squad of cowardly chaos termys a few weeks ago). My question is this:
So I was playing a guard player who did a reserve hammer thing (vendettas and storm troopers and whatnot I don't really know/care about the guard codex) so he started out with only a ccs in a chimeara (spelled wrong I think but w/e) hugging the board edge. I got really freaking lucky on the first turn and my havocs blew it up with las cans. I shoot at them with a few other things and made him take moral. He promptly failed it and ran off the board. Do I win right there? (We played it out anyway because I'm not a dick like that) Just wondering.

One of your basic premises is false. You only automatically lose if you don't have any models left on the table *when the game ends*.
This means that if it is turn 4, and some reserves have not arrived, you go on to turn 5, where the reserves arrive automatically.
If, through some strange circumstances, the reserves are delayed (such as through deep strike mishap) and the game ends at the end of turn five on a roll of 1 or 2, then you satisfy the "wipeout!" conditions on page 91.
If the game continues, then the delayed reserves will arrive on turn 6, etc.

As above. One of the two things you "know" is, in fact, false.
The only time yuo auto-lose is if you have no models on the board when the game ends, whcih cannot be before the end of turn 5*
*unless youre necrons.

Maybe, but it's still the rule.
And in many tournaments, there is a point.

"'players must agree how they are going to select their armies, and if any restrictions apply to the number and type of models they can use."
This is an actual rule in the actual rulebook. Quit whining about how you can imagine someone's army touching you in a bad place and play by the actual rules.

Snicker, there IS a point if you are playing in a tournament which has additional criteria for winning the tournament, for example getting models to the centre of the table, controlling quarters, and so on.
In a pick up game - fair enough. But saying there is "no point" is strictly wrong.

Tabled =/= No models of the table, in rules lingo (as far as "tabled" is rules lingo).
