A couple of things struck me:

- How far and wide the Imperium is spread throughout the Galaxy
- Without giving Brother Coa ammo, how small the Tau empire is in comparison
- How small the Tyranid invasions have been, in comparison to the overall size of the Imperiums control sphere
- Having said that, how close Leviathan is to Earth (also bear in mind Lev is moving up the galactic plane so this 2D image dosent do it justicce (Does that mean the Nids are surrounding the whole Galaxy, vector-wise?)
- How far out some of the Eldar Craft Worlds are, they really are on the edge of known space

Bear in mind, from other maps I've seen this one seems to be rotated about 30 degrees North (ie The Tau empire, Kraken etc are in the 2 o clock position, other maps I've seen they are usally around 5pm - anyone else confirm this?).

- Without giving Brother Coa ammo, how small the Tau empire is in comparison To late . On 1 Tau world goes 10.000 Imperial worlds
- How small the Tyranid invasions have been, in comparison to the overall size of the Imperiums control sphere First 2 not very large, but the last is since it attacks the galaxy from below unlike everyone else who attacks from side.
- Having said that, how close Leviathan is to Terra (also bear in mind Lev is moving up the galactic plane so this 2D image dosent do it justicce (Does that mean the Nids are surrounding the whole Galaxy, vector-wise?) We don't know that, we only know that one part of it is going toward Terra and other is going toward Baal. But we can assume that they are close since Leviathan already attacked Tarsis Ultra and Gryphon IV. We can assume somewere in the begining of 42'nd millenum these 2 battles will occur.
- How far out some of the Eldar Craft Worlds are, they really are on the edge of known space Some Craftworlds are on the edge of the GALAXY ( known universe is our entire universe and it contains billions of galaxies ), there are also Exodite worlds somewhere out there.

Bear in mind, from other maps I've seen this one seems to be rotated about 30 degrees North (ie The Tau empire, Kraken etc are in the 2 o clock position, other maps I've seen they are usally around 5pm - anyone else confirm this?).

Hope I hepl a bit. And one question: are you Tyranid player?

If you see something point it out. The map looks a fair amount out of date. There is no hivefleet gorgon.

Yes the T'au is spelt Tau however complaining to the OP about it is meaningless as this map has been available for a very long time and is even in the stickys at the top of the background forum.

At the OP: The IoM does not have a 'control spere', it's empire is spread thin across the milky way like a net across the sea. Each controlled system being light years apart, often with smaller human and alien civilisations existing in between.

This is because most IoM worlds are on easily accessable warp routes instead of a continuous wave of worlds expanding from Terra.

Relictors: 1500pts

its safe to say that relictors are the greatest army a man , nay human can own.

The Segmentum Boundaries on the map really isn't that important, yeah. It's just the "Imperium Dominatus", the area the Imperium claims as mankind's domain. In reality the area in these boundaries are overrun with Orks, Tyranids, dozens of minor Xenos races, Chaos-held regions, the Tau, Rebels, Pirate empires, and so on. The Imperium are a series of systems connected by astropaths and warp travel, the physical domain isn't very important.

The galaxy is mindbogglingly vast and there are probably still undiscovered human/alien civilizations in Segmentum Solar even.

My bad, wasnt aware it was an oldy.

Yeah I meant to say sphere of influence rather then control sphere, ofc Humanity is spread thinly with multiple alien races/threats spread throughout. Its was more the scale "end to end" that was impressive to me.

I found a Tau planet far away from Tau space. Why is that?

PM me if you want me to draw anything related to Warhmmer 40k. I will put it in my gallery for all to see.

I did a double-take when I noticed that one

How old is this map, anyway? I didn't notice any of the worlds from the video games on there (subsector Aurelia, Cyrene and the Blood Ravens' recruiting worlds, Kronus and Kaurava...)

I know it was made after Fire Warrior as it has that planet. it was made prior to the DoW series so you won't find Karuva.
