I'm curious what other people will think will blend the best with the new ogre lore. I think Beasts may be our new best friend with Savage beast of Horos, the sig spell and the +3 toughness to heroes, but heavens does have the nice re-roll 1s and the opponent re-rolls 6s and death is good character sniping without taxing our power dice too much.

Beast, definitely and fire (firebelly)... You've got maneaters for sniping.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do |

Death or Beasts.
I still think the Great Maw lore is still pretty good.

The Lore of the Great Maw is pretty good, but not really for a lvl1 wizard. I foresee alot of people using a Lvl4 slaughtermaster with the Great Maw and then either a Firebelly or a Butcher with Beasts(or Heavens, but more likely Beasts because of the signature spell).

Yeah, level 1 might suck for it. It really needs to cast a few spells to really get the ball rolling (and the Bloodgruel attribute will really help with that).

I plan on running a couple of Lvl1s with the Beast sig spell alongside a Lvl4 with Gutmagic.
Lore of Heavens is interesting. Harmonic Convergence and the Sig spell are both good(protection from shooting and making us roll better)
Comet can also be useful. Sit there and get blasted by a hunk of rock, or come forward and get smashed.
Death is a mixed bag. the Ld penelties are good, especially when making Fear tests, but the Snipe spells aren't super reliable(our Ld on casters is fairly poor compared to other characters)
as far as Purple Sun is concerned... No, just no.
Beasts and Heavens i can see as being the most useful overall. Death requires you to roll the right spells, It will take skill to make it work.
the Firebelly is a vital new tool. we can now deal with regeneration and we have some decent ranged attacks.

Indeed. The Firebelly is really awesome, and not just for the Lore of Fire. When the WD battlereport was talking about the Firebelly's impact hit negating regeneration for the combat I was like, "That... Is... Awesome! "

We won't know for some days, but I think we might expect Ogres to have the most expensive "mages" in the game. It will be harder to just sprinkle them around. Ogres don't sprinkle.

a Lvl1 butcher is fairly priced for what you get. a Lvl1 mage with a statline that many lords would be jealous of.

Along with a lore attribute that can give a wound back after every spell.

Indeed, although I will be running Lore of Beasts on the Lvl1s.
still, i never had problems with my Butchers getting killed in combat. they always either killed themselves with miscasts or the unit got run down.

If Death had more debuffs, then it would match well with Great Maw. As it is, I think a Fire Belly matches well, or a pair of Butchers with lvl1 beasts and a lvl4 SM with Great maw will work very well in concert together. That's ALOT of buffs running around easily cast that can back up mages who are no slouches in combat. When you have an army of s4 t4 3w models, they only get better (and VERY fast) with the sig spell from beasts. No one wants to allow those to get off, so they will tease out dispell dice. Though a caster with Death would force the enemy to fear that and save dispells for it, when the REAL power you are wielding is making the fatties fatter, not PS or LD sniping.

Good news. This is the best time in the hobby. Full of promise. GW lets us down each time and we know it but secretly we're hoping that this is the edition that GW gives us a balanced game that can also be played competitively at tournaments. I'm loving it.

the Sickle stayed. although in a slightly different form. It causes a wound as before, but it gives +2 to cast for the rest of that phase. you also roll a 2D6, on snake eyes the other ogres lynch the bearer with no saves.

Yep, can't wait for my opponent's face when I cast Great Maw at +7. Then he can see mine when I roll snake eyes...
