I am looking to purchase some FW beasties for my Nids.
I have enough for the equivalent of two Barbed Hierodules but not quite enough for the Hierophant.
Model-wise there is no question for me, the Hierophant is fantastic but I also have to be realistic.

Any advice on what would be a better choice tactically in games, the Heirophant or 2x BHs?
I do recall a thread on the HP before and people were saying it was close to unstoppable. Anyone used the BHs and your experience thereof?

In short, if the HP is way ahead of the other two combined, I'll save a little harder and get him but otherwise I'd be happy to go with the 2 BHs.

thanks!

I own a barbed hierodule, a scythed hierodule, and a hierophant. I've only used Barbie in an apoc game so far, nobody will even agree to face the 'phant.

So here is the advice - if your gaming group doesn't shy away from super-heavies or apoc style games, save hard and get the hierophant. The hierodules have some good s10 shooting and are mobile (12" gargantuan move) but they will die to lascannons and missles much much faster than a hierophant will. Save that extra $$ and get yourself a resin masterpiece.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

I'd say the hierophant either way. The big thing that boosts their unstoppability is how your group plays warp field.

The phant was originally made for 4th ed where warp field gave it a 5+ inv save (or was it 6+?). With the new dex, people interpret that it gets a 3+ inv save (don't have the books at work with me, so someone else would need to provide RAW for this).

Now, a 3++ save combined with T10 and what? W10? The thing is basically unstoppable. The few games I've faced one, we basically ignored it and focused on everything else.

I agree very much with tetrisphreak. I own one of each model and the Hierophant is simply awesome in large Apocalypse games. The last game I played saw both Hierodules go down fairly quickly to Melta fire. Heartbreaking. However, the Hierophant was unstoppable.

It is certainly harder to find games where the Hierophant will have a chance to play, whereas you can always just use one of the Hierodules in a smaller game. You would have more flexibility with the Hierodules, but you'll have one of the absolute best Apocalypse units in the Hierophant.

From a modelling standpoint, the Hierophant has a few 'issues.' I don't recommend you allow him to stand very long by himself. The rear 'feet' may hold up, but the front limbs and 'feet' are ridiculously thin. I have a display base built (not painted or finished) where he lives when not being used and a small six inch oval base I put under him for game time as I don't trust him to be on his own for very long.

They are all amazing models, but the Hierophant is just downright scary looking and will definitely turn heads.
